Leaking roof

Well after it rained today I noticed that the overhead roof liner was wet. Right around the interior lights. I suspect that the OnStar antennae was not tight to the roof allowing water to leak in. Anyone had this problem before? I was wondering if it would be worth it to just have a bodyshop remove the antennae and patch the roof, or if i should see if they can put a new seal around the antennae. Its a 2004 gp. I dont use the OnStar, however I just got the car and mabey have drivin it 200 kms so far. Anyone else experience this ?

is this a car with a sunroof? If it is it could be a clogged drain tube. The way to test it is to take a large cup of water and pour it in the trough at the front of the sunroof. The water should drain out of a tube on either side. If it is clogged, I fixed mine by taking a air pump, for inflating a air bed, and inserted it into the open end and pumped.

I have a friend who's wife drives an '04 and had the same issue. Dealership replaced the OnStar antenna, just as you mentioned, and the leak stopped.

I almost guarantee that it IS the Onstar Antenna. I just took mine to the dealership to have it fixed. I attempted to do it myself but with limited tools and no patience, I figured I would only succeed in breaking the overhead console. I did just that... heh.. Dealer charged 97.00 - a bit pricey IMO but I am glad it stopped leaking plus they did fix what I had broken.. heh.. My cup holders were getting filled every time it rained.

Mine is also a 2004.

And a word of advice... if you live where there is a lot of snow/ice in the winter, be really careful when cleaning the car off. I talked to the guy and he said that they aren't held on by a lot and that he sees this often. It usually gets loosened by people not paying attention when they are scraping snow off the car. After he said that, I realized that I can admit to being a bit rough when sweeping the snow off in a rush.

Its the Onstar antenna, I promise. I just fixed my GFs brother 04 Comp G with the same damn problem. I pulled out the headliner and had him spray down the car. It leaked at the onstar antenna. I used a little bit of RTV on both sides and sealed it up, hasn't had a problem since.

Hi all... new here.

I'm having the same on-star antenna leak. I want to repair it myself, but don't want to break the reading lamp overhead console. Can anyone give me some more specific directions?

i would say this needs to go in the recall list for the car so every one with onstar can get this fixed. my mom has an 05 and it leaked so bad is caused her sunroof motor to short out and quite. and i have a buddy with an 05 gxp and hes leaks pretty bad too.

Does anyone have instructions for removing what is necessary to get at the bottom of the Onstar antenna? I want to fix this myself, but do not want to break anything in the process.

Gotta remove the headliner

Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 2 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 6. Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (See: Sun Visor\Service and Repair\Removal and Replacement\Sunshade Replacement) .
Remove the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement (See: Sun Visor\Service and Repair\Removal and Replacement\Sunshade Anchor Replacement)
Disconnect the electric connector (2) to the rear view mirror.
Remove the dome light, if equipped.
Remove the assist handle. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement - Rear (See: Passenger Assist Handle\Service and Repair) .
Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (See: Trim Panel\Service and Repair\Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) .
Remove the sail trim panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement (See: Trim Panel\Service and Repair\Sail Panel Replacement) .
Pull down the door opening weatherstrip seal on both the front and the rear doors.
If the vehicle is equipped with a sunroof, remove the finish lace from the sunroof opening. Refer to Sunroof Finishing Lace Replacement (See: Roof and Associated Components\Sunroof / Moonroof\Sunroof / Moonroof Interior Trim Panel\Service and Repair) in Roof.
Using J 38778 remove the push-in retainers, located over the rear seat, from the headliner

If equipped with a roof rail airbag, disconnect the headliner electric harness (1) from the right airbag inflator strap (2).
Remove the rear window trim panel as necessary to access the headliner harness connectors. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Window Shelf (See: Trim Panel\Service and Repair\Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Window Shelf) .
Disconnect the headliner electric harness connectors, located under the right side of the rear window shelf.
Rotate the right front seat back to a horizontal position.
Remove the headliner from the vehicle through the right rear door.
Remove the overhead console, if equipped. Refer to Console Replacement - Overhead

Gotta remove the headliner there is a tech bulletin drain plugs back up and leak the water runs down the headliner and pools up by map light making it look lit leak is there. bottom of drain plug should be cut in v shape to help remedy problem
