Well I’m going to need a new transmission. But due to my financial situation I’m opting to have a used one put in. We have a salvage yard here, that has tons of 4t65e transmission, they guarantee their transmissions for 15,000 miles regardless of mileage, and most of the transmission cost under $300.
Anyway the shop that looked at my transmission, said yes any 4t65e tranny will bolt in but it is best to find one with the same gear ratio’s ect..
So im searching the inventory of the salvage dealer, and they have lots from all kinds of cars…(im trying to do 04 and up for the better 4th gear hub) does anybody know the ratio of a 2001 GP GT? Or have a list of what make, model, and year GM cars carry this tranny with the same ratio?

any 4t65-e thats a NON hd I believe had 3.29 gears which your car has their are a few models that have weird ratios like a 3.09s Triple Edge Performance has the conversion charts to tell you what trans missions will fint it what. All you need is the ID tag off your trans and then compare it with the Id tag on the trans your looking to buy to make sure they have the same gear ratios. Ill see if I can find the link to the conversion chart and Trans ID tag info.

So does the tag have to match exactly? or will certian number vary based on year or model?

    thanks btw

I looked on the tripleedgeperformance.com website and couldnt find the chart I was looking for at the bottom of the home page you can send them an email or PM trannyman. Dave should be able to list all the ID tags that will fit your make model, and gear ratio. Unless someone has the Link and lists it I dont know here it is.

Yea dont go looking for a 04+ transmission. its just not a good idea. and you can probably use and HD tranny (or any 4t65e tranny for that matter) as long as you program the gear ratio into the pcm.

why reprogram the gear ratio? Just get the right trans in the 1st place.

The '03's have a better 4th gear hub...so if you find a '03 trans yank it out...otherwise your stuck buying them new. You can't use an '03 transmission because of the different valve body and internal sensors. You can't use anything after '04 because they were just different period. I'd find a good condition GT transmission and put an HD Differential in it...other than that unless your beating on it on the highway it'll be just fine with a shift kit (Intense Racing or TransGo) and Dexron VI.
