What's so special about V-TEC engines ? I've never worked on one and don't know much about them. How come they're so talked about ? What are their advantages ? Sorry if it's a noob question i just never took the time out to look them up. And in my short career of having the GTP i never raced a VTEC.

They've got a solenoid on the head that basically changes the valve timing which lets it make more power.

so in summary, its a way of advertising that their engines make no power till 5000 RPM.

Same here too many civics, integra's around here and they are all cocky as hell. There's a couple H22swapped civic hatches here that run 13s all motor I wanna try and beat and then there's 15 sec civics with turbo's ... They think 15.8 @ 84 is fast with their turbo setup lol.. My buddys integra gsr runs 15.6@ 89 stock.. But I'm sick of the hondas here can't wait for my prix to be done

If your 3.4" setup is running how it should...the only thing I could see being a threat is a GSR swapped hatch or something light. Even though they run good for what they are...you've got gobs more torque and thats what wins races...not VTEC, or HP. All VTEC is a engagement where it yanks the valves open more to actually make it seem like there is more power...where...in any other car...they have that all the time so they make torque. Hence why a new Civic Si might make 197 horse...and my Cobalt makes less than 160...but look at the torque numbers...my Balt is around 160 and the Civic isn't even touching 140 at over 8 grand.
