There's about a 50/50 chance I might have to part out my GTP. Before it gets to that point I want to know what you guys do with the cars once the part sales die off (selling to junk yards, salvage yards, or donate to charity for a tax write-off for example). What have you guys done to get you the most out of the car's corpse once the part-out biz is dried up?

    Thanks for the help.

sell it to the junk yard and be rid of it. parting out takes LOTS of time and effort.

if you have the stock parts, just de-mod all your aftermarket stuff and sell that.

I don't think i would sell to a junkyard right off the bat. I would put the car up for sale as being parted out, and see what people want off it such as body parts, seats, etc. I can almost guarantee you that you can earn more money selling the seats and body parts than you would at the junkyard. Yards only give like $100-$300 for cars

Well I want to hang on to all the aftermarket parts because if my car does get totaled out I want to swap them over to another GTP. I only had my 3.4 pulley on for three freaking days before that ditz hit my car.

What would you guess I could safely expect to get out of a part-out on my car?

Right now the hood, bumper, fender, side rail, headlight, and engine cradle need to be replaced. I'm right on the border of the car's value in repairs so I'm hoping today I'll find out if the insurance will total it or repair it. It's right on the line. I'd much prefer that it just gets fixed. It has been an awesome reliable car and there's nothing wrong with it at all other than the stuff I just listed.

Engine and trans are good, then figure $200-300 for each. Right there you can make your money back on buying it back. Then anything from there is gravy. Once you are done and have a carcass left the choices are Craigslist for free pickup (quick and gone), flat bed it to a scrap yard (best price for metal), or bring to a junkyard (less money).
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Ha, ha, ha, I was wondering if anyone was going to say anything about that.

I met with the body shop yesterday and they said they are 75% confident they can repair the damage to the sub frame and engine cradle and get it within factory specs. They are going to try and if it fails it will be totalled.

Well it's not just the part, but also the labor to install it that will get the car totalled by the insurance.

Edit: Morad wants about $200 for the cradle which is about exactly what the body shop wants for it.

We'll see. I'll put it on my to-do list.

Well I got good news yesterday. The body shop said they were able to fix/straighten everything a little easier than they expected and when they checked the frame alignment, everything checked out. So the car will be fixed! The speed gods have smiled upon me. Now I can resume enjoying the 3.4 pulley and worrying about KR.
