Re: Car gets too hot while in traffic
Stock programmed fan settings are ~216F for low speed fans to kick on and ~228F for high speed fans to kick on.
The temp sender is a dual sender, this means it has two temp probes in it. One supplies the pcm and the other supplies the dash gauge. This is important as the pcm can see something different than the dash gauge.

Not that I've ever noticed. Usually can't ever see anything coming out of the exhaust.
Re: Car gets too hot while in traffic
and the stock fan run on temp is 284f!!!!!
Re: Car gets too hot while in traffic
So I replaced the thermostat, radiator cap, and flushed and refilled the cooling system with 2 bottles of Water Wetter, and some 50/50 premix universal coolant yesterday.
Car is still getting hot enough in traffic that it starts into "safe mode" or whatever. I noticed the car does seem to cool off faster now once I get moving again, but it's still having the same problem as before.
Also the car stays hotter than before. Even at night last night the water temp gauge was reading right at 210 when before with the 160*thermostat it always read much cooler.
What should I be looking at next?
Re: Car gets too hot while in traffic

also have this problem, when sitting in traffic temp goes up slowly takes about 5 mins and its past the 100 degree marker, sorry im canadian lol. also car goes into a kind of safe mode not much power. so to let you guys know my car is defenatly not leaking coolant anymore, i hydro locked the engine last month and now all gaskets have been changed with new coolant, and bled properly. it still does this and gets ffffing anoying.
but i think its a fan problem cuz turning the a/c on helps i can heear the condensor fans turning and it lowers the temp or stops it from going up for a while. but i my radiator fans r only working sometimes i think.
Re: Car gets too hot while in traffic
I dont have that same issue but i have a similar one.. one day my 2000 grand prix GT 3800 overheated into the red zone in my driveway. right away i changed the thermostat and did a flush and fill just to be safe. Since then it has always run hot. driving at about 40 mph it stays about 210 -215 but when idling or slow driving it runs anywhere from 210-230. i recently changed the water pump and the coolant temp sensor and same problem occurred.. i thought maybe it had an air pocket in it but ive bled it out several times and tried to burp it but nothing has helped my problem. It is 80-90 degrees outside right now... is this normal or can i do something to bring the temp down below 210? PLEASE LET ME KNOW! thanksss
