I got this e-mail saying i could gain up to 20% better gas mileage. the product is called Ethos. Anyone ever heard of it or use it? If you want the website to check it out its Pay Less For Gas With Ethos FR It sounds too good to be true.

Oh boy, here we go again.

Well let me say this. We do not make use of all the fuel that goes into the mixture. This is a known fact. If we made use of all the energy available in the a/f mixture then our average fuel economy would be beyond most hybrids. But the sad truth is we dont and never will. There are losses due to friction that just are a fact of life in an internal combustion engine.

What they mention about fuel vaporization is true. Liquid fuel does not burn, fuel vapors do. But there are not many ways to increase fuel vaporization. You can increase fuel pressure, perhaps change injector spray characteristics or you can heat the fuel. Heating the fuel allows for easier vaporization. However, on the supercharged GP's, I think they are perfectly set up when it comes to the fuel heating since the fuel rails go right over the top of the blower. Though there are kits on the market to allow you to heat the fuel to a point, I think its on a bit of the risky side to say nothing of possible vapor lock.

That said, I know of no chemical that can be added to fuel that would help with atomization or vaporization. There are some things that can be done to the head to promote vaporization, but of course that requires the heads being pulled and the work being done and so forth. I have seen some substantial gains from vaporization enhancements done in the heads. But none of them were done via chemical additives in the fuel.

Oh, one other thing. ALL gasoline additives have to be registered with the EPA, so dont assume because Ethos is that its something special, its a requirement.

I found the hydrogen thing interesting and the amount of videos with testing enlightening.

As far as Ethos goes, who know. The value isn't there.

That Ethos must be crap because of this:

    You Never Have to Buy
    Premium Gas Again

All premium fuel is simply gasoline with a higher burning rate and more oxygen. It burns more completely, keeps your engine cleaner and comes with a much steeper price tag!

You'll get the same effects and keep your engine just as healthy when you simply add Ethos to your car with regular gasoline.

I know this is hard to believe, so please don't believe me - read the testimonials on this page, and read about the double your money back guarantee below. Give it a test drive and measure you'll results.
They must not understand octane, and if they don't understand that then how can they make my gasoline more efficient? They also say that some percentage of your gasoline leaves your tail pipe. Once the cat is warmed up it's taken care of in there.

When you drive up to a gas station and see the different grades of gasoline... Basic, Premium, Plus... etc... These are just different grades of molecule spacing. They're making the gas more effective, and charging you more money for it!
Um, if a chemical co. cant understand octane, then how am I supposed to trust its chemicals

Edit: Sabrewings posted the same thing my bad

I dont mean that in a bad way, its just I see a lot of this from day to day. I'll be the first to admit that I'll try just about anything, but if you listen to what they pitch to you in their sales pitch you can pretty quickly determine whether it is based on sound information or if they are just playing with words.

Theres just not a lot of chemicals that you can add to gas to make do anything better. Gas is gas. And as I mentioned there are a few things that you can do with regards to vaporization, but its not going to come by way of a chemical in a bottle, at least none Ive seen so far.

It is true that you get better mileage with lower octane fuels, but with our cars you have to run premium and if this chemical is playing with that, then it becomes a dangerous thing.
