I have a 2005 Grand Prix with intermittent power window issues. On a completely random basis (could be hot, could be cold, could be weeks between occurrences), the master switch for the power windows on the driver's side of my car stops working. At the same time, the controls for the rear windows stop working as well. However, the passenger window rolls up and down just fine.

The "solution" to this in the past has been to check for blown fuses (no such luck). In the end, I turn off the car and walk away because the windows will just as randomly start working again at some unspecified time. When this last happened one night a few weeks ago, it was fine the next morning. *

A few minutes ago, I got the idea to try the unresponsive driver's side window while at the same time rolling down the working passenger's side window. For reasons I can't comprehend, that solved the problem. For now.*

I searched the forums for similar issues, but didn't find anything that quite duplicated my problem.*

Any ideas about what might be causing this problem and what I might be able to do to prevent it from happening again? The only other possibly related issue vie had recently was a bad blower motor, which I had replaced about a year ago. Could that be in any way related?*

    Thanks,

    Dave

blower motors have nothing to do with your windows.

sounds like you have a loose connection where the wires plug into the window switches. I'd say try to find a new switch assembly. It's not a fuse, fuses either die or they don't.

    Thanks for the ideas, Warbeaver.

The only reason I thought it might be related to the blower motor was that the mechanic who replaced it last year said that the defective blower motor may have been causing a short that affected the power windows. Considering that I have no idea how to prove or disprove that theory, I thought it was worth mentioning. Regardless, even if that was the problem last year, it wouldn’t seem to explain the exact same problem this year with a new blower motor. Unless the new one’s going bad, too.

Which switch assembly would you say was the problem? The driver's side?

well, is the drivers side switch the only one giving you problems? if the other driver switch wasnt working, then i'd say you have a different issue. if its just the driver side, its probably the switch/buttons

well I think I have the problem figured out..maybe..lol
After taking everything apart and already having replaced the switch and the express module (gm #22596817) I was thinking maybe my motor could be at fault (although i didnt think so ) well I took the motor out and it works fine until I reinstall it , well the sunroof motor installs (bolts to) the positioning switch (gm #12459083 .. but its not really a switch nor looks like a switch) and like I said when I reinstall the motor on the positioning switch my problem is there, so it has to be that switch or maybe a weird wiring problem...and of course that positioning switch is a huge PITA to replace. ( the motor and the module were a breeze to remove)

So I am going to try the positioning switch as soon as I get it. I usually order from gmpartsonline.net (and they also have a diagram of what I am talking about to look at) http://www.gmpartsonline.net/partloc...layCatalogid=0 ..... as theyre much cheaper on these parts than my local dealer )example the module was $160 at local dealer $100 from online).

I will say 1 thing with all my time spent trying to figure this problem out I have gotten to the point that in 10 mins I have easy access to all the components..lol
So I am hoping to re post that this fixed my problem as I have read about 10 posts online (not just this site) of fellow GP owners with the same problem..
