Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
Some spark plug resistance numbers taken on a few of my plugs. All are in ohms
Autolite AL605 - 5410
Autolite AL104 - 7410
NGK TR6IX Iridium - 4430
Nology Silver Racing G4YS/ Brisk G14YS - .5
Brisk GOR14LGS-T - 3870
What I found so surprising was the resistance in the Autolite plugs. The Nology is the same as the Brisk Silver Racing plug with the same part number. The other thing strange is the Brisk cap. It is made of an odd metal and is very hard to get a reading off of. Could be a specialized coating.
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
Lee, I checked my LGS plugs and there was nothing wrong with them. The center electrodes were all consistent, no deformities or oddities or anything like that. I measured the resistance as well and they measured out around 6300 ohms.
I had some E3 plugs here at one time. I ran those for a while until one of the plugs shorted out. But I distinctly remember those being very low resistance. I want to say just a few hundred ohms.

Your LGS are 15 series, yes? If so, then the higher resistance compared tomine would make sense.
glad your electrodes are fine. I've sent an email to Brisk questioning them about the condition of my 6. My friend that ordered plugs over the phone from Brisk, informed me of his conversation with them. Sounds like they are not the brightest people. The first email reply I received about the center electrodes kind of confirms his experience.
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
With that last bit said, I'm starting to second guess buying a set of those... But, I guess if no support is needed, having an unintelligent support staff won't matter much anyway.

It was kind of weird, what he went through with them. Although the plugs ordered were a new model and on the website they only had options to buy 2,4,or 5. Had 6 been an option a phone call would not have been needed.
I received another email back from Brisk about the center electrodes.
My questioning about the center electrode inconsistancy resulted in these replies.
Not at all. There is so much turbulent flow inside the combustion chamber that the spark just kind of goes with the turbulent flow. The turbulent flow in Each cycle and RPM is completely different and the spark just goes with the path of least resistance. (electrical and environmental) Sharp edges are beneficial for easier discharge. (such delco rapid fire) The variation will not effect your performance.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Chris
Hi Lee,
The plugs were inspected before they were shipped as are all on-line orders. I looked at some of the remaining plugs and saw no discernible difference. You must be looking at the electrode under magnification. I assure you that the plugs will fire correctly.
Best regards,
Jim
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
I am new to this forum and am trying to find out if anyone else is or has had my problem. My 2000 GT is hesitating while idling. I replaced all the Coil Packs which did not help. Fuel Filter was replaced about a year ago(before this problem). Anyway, does anyone have suggestions as to what might be going on. Could it be the plugs and wires. If so, is it expensive to get them replaced?
Thank you!

plug wires are around $35 from rockauto. Could be a clogged injector(s) dirty or not funtioning properly MAF or IAC, bad plug(s) (carbon tracking, worn out, cracked insulator..etc)
Your post should probably go in it's own thread for more help since this thread is more about spark plug comparisions. Not being mean, just that more exposure for your issue will likely render more opinions.
:th_thumbsup-wink:
Welcome to the GPF forum. btw I think someone else started a thread about poor idling not long ago. Although I don't know how good the search feature is here, it may be worth a try as well.
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
An update. Looking at the LGS center electrode again, I guess slight variations may not be detrimental. What I found even more interesting is that the the 4 ground electrode do not seem to be the same distance away from the center electrode. There is a possibility that the spark may only jump to the longest ground electorde. Once the current longest ground electrode wears down it may start sparking to the next longest electrode (shortest current gap). Who knows but I think I'm going to install these on Sunday.
I also made note in an earlier post that on the Nology Silver Racing plug box it says "by Brisk". The nology labelled plugs are cheaper than the Brisk.:th_thumbsup-wink:
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
Put the new plugs in today. Although I can't tell any difference yet, I'll need a couple of days driving the 60 miles back and forth to work to get a real feel for any changes.
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
I'm not sure about you guys, but after running autolites and always having on and off idle issues, I tried some new plugs out. Their AC delco R44LTS6 (have to double check tommarow but think thats right). Their compariable heat range to 605's. Got 30k on them and their just starting to wear, but overall nice plug, plus cheap :th_winking:
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
I still have my Brisk LGS-T plugs to try. Hopefully this week I'll get the free time to put that in that I've been lacking since the warmer weather arrived!
I also have some plug wires to try from the same company that does Brisk plugs, called Quadcore wires.

What made you decide to try that plug?
By far my car likes the NGK TR6IX plugs, which I'm likely to go back to. Driving in to work this morning, I didn't like the feel of the engine, however, I need to give it another day or two just to make sure. With the TR6IX and even the AL 104 under accelleration the engine was smooth as glass. It felt somewhat rough today.
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
It's the AC equivalent of a Autolite 605, and since I have nothing but idle issues with the Autolights after time, I decided to try something new and different. curious though, are the AC's I'm using a copper plug or just standard? (sorry to hijack guys)

I'm not sure about the copper. The AL are copper core not an actual copper electrode, so the electrical spec for straight copper will not apply. The resistance in the 605 and 104's is pretty high.
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
UPDATE on the Brisk plugs. It seems that I may have gained about 2 MPG hiway, over the new AL 104's that were removed.
While it still seems the idle is more rough, the MPG did go up.
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
You've driven through a whole tank of gas already?

No, I do like always and reset the DIC. While not accurate as far as actual MPG, it is accurate comparing the numbers against each other.
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
Thats surprising coming from you. I would have expected miles driven by gallons used.

I used to do the manual calculations, but as long as there is a constant it doesn't matter. For so long the manual method was as consistant as the DIC that manual became pointless.
Re: Trying new plugs - Brisk
basically if you take the actual numbers away who cares how it's figured when you just want to know better or worse
