I've got the chance to buy a PT for a really great price. The previous owner I know pretty well and trust that everything is in great shape. He also says that it's "open" and still has the setup file. It works on his 2002 L36 Impala, and I want to use it on my 2004 L36 Impala.

    It should work, no?

yep it should be fine. I've used both the PT and HPT on my car. I like my HPTuners way better, but if you can get a PT for a good price, go for it.

It's a good price, trust me. Around half what they used to retail for.

I was going to get a HPT, but this is too good an offer to pass up.

I would do the same thing. Be careful though. I just read a post where Ron Vogel was talking about frying PCM's with the PT's newest software ( last version before they went out of business). He said he had better luck using an older version. The downside for you may be, that if the software version is too old it won't work on your car. I had quite a few issues with mine. I had to use one version of software for the editor and another for the scanner...huge PITA. Just research first.

I will, thanks for the info. I know a member at NAIOA with a 2005 Impala who is very familiar with the DHP PT. I'm hoping to pick his brain a lot on it. I'm also hoping to get a lot of help here since I know the PT is popular with GP owners as well.

Other than the guy at NAIOA, I think you will have better luck on the Powrtuner forum than here.

I thought PT forum went under when DHP did, or is there another out there now?

The powertuner forum isn't owned or operated by DHP. It's still there.

AS Brian says the forum is still there. The Best Tuning Site in the World - Powrtuner Portal You will likely have to use the previous owners login until you can find out how to transfer the ownership to you and gain access to the "secret" forum. Some of the key players have left and gone over to HPTuners, but anything you need to know should be available with a little searching.
