Could THIS Be Causing All of the Engine Fires?

On the rear, i dont know if i bumped the yellow oring while messing with the retainer, but it looked like it had been out of place or something. I was trying to make sense of my rear leak. idk...I put in all new orings and nothing leaks at all! i pushed and pulled an no leaking! so, o-rings looked good, but the new ones fixed the leak issue....maybe the old o-rings were too flimsy?

edit* my car has 97k miles on it, so i don't know if the engine fires are from these fuel line o-rings. Maybe just on the higher mileage engines?? SuperSport, how many miles were on your car when you changed the o-rings?

Wow congrats on getting that done so fast! When I lined up the old rings and the new rings before I put them in, I could tell the yellow ring shrunk a bit, so that, along with either a hardened/cracked or shrunk brown ring, causes leaks. At least youre leaks are gone. Good job.

My car had 118,100 miles on it when I changed mine.

No problem. I couldnt imagine what they look like. I think it helps if the rails have never been off the lines. I know when I got my car the UIM had been replaced, so I know my rings were disturbed. Id still change them for good measure.

Isn't this something that should be reported to NHTSA?.

I just filed a complaint to NHTSA. This needs to be taken seriously. I personally know of someone that this happened to even after having GM fix the recall items. Luckily there was snow on the ground and that's how he put it out...

Funny thing that I seen this thread. I was changing my Orifice Tube today and noticed a slight smell of gas. I just happened to move the fuel line when I unbolted and moved the brake booster. The odor got stronger. I stopped what I was doing and traced it to the rear quick disconnect. I was just thinking about how to fix the leak! Looks like that project will be tomorrow. Glad I caught this thread!

Just finished replacing my O rings on my fuel fittings. The hardest part was removing the black plastic retainer in the fitting. I used a paint can opener and it worked pretty well. Only problem I had was that when I pulled out the black retainer, it resisted at first, and then "popped" out, and flew across my garage. Luckily, I found it. Putting the new "O" rings in was easy. And, no fuel leaks after re-assembly.

yeah, definatetly don't put so much force into getting the retainer out that you make it go somewhere u cant find. Mine just popped out on one side, so i knew it was close to coming out, so i was gentle working it out. also, it helps to put a giant cloth or something across the top of the engine bay so it doesnt fall down in the engine somewhere

Anyone else have success and recommendations with using the O'Reily o-ring package set for replacing the fuel line connectors o-rings? Is there a better match out there? Having a hard time matching, the old rings came apart in small pieces as I pulled them out.

You would be better off switching your lines to stainless.

New disconnect is $10 or less.

Oreillys has the disconnects trust me I used one when I replaced the engine the 1st time in the black 4 door I have. And the injector orings has been a known problem for a long time.

Ohh did I mention my Regal GS burned down in April and Im 110% sure it wasnt due to leaky valve covers or injecotr o rings being bad I have the rydell chevrolet repair reciepts that were done from the owner before me, which also was a factor why I got away not having to pay for the damages done to the garage when my car burned down.

Showed the papers from Rydells to the fire department when they did the investigation and I was not held liable for the vehicle fire. Not caused by me nor was it negligence. Also the Fire department blamed it on a transmission line. I still 110% believe thats BS becasue the fire started and was the hottest behind the passneger headlight.

Whats behind the headlight on the passenger side? Battery, and fuse box. Ive seen at least 3 W body fires, 2 other cars in a yard where I usually get some parts from both looked exactly like mine. Im blaming electrical on all 3 Ive seen but what the hell do I know.

Wow... I feel fail... I completely missed this thread somehow and the other ones linked (which are failed links now)... :(

Fortunately when my engine blew last year we put all new o-rings on top and bottom of the injectors... as the tech and I are perfectionists and didn't want any leaks.

Unfortunately I just crested 95k and the fuel rails have been disconnected multiple times (LIM repairs, gasket replacements, new engine, etc...) and the Quick Connect O-rings have never been replaced... someone say a prayer until I get them changed :th_praying:.

I haven't as of yet smelled gas or noticed any leaks and I'm always checking fluids and playing under the hood, so I would notice... altho I DID remove the SC Cover and Hood Insulator, so fumes would probably just dissipate before I ever even noticed them. :th_nervous: I Need to look into this

Man, about a year ago today I started smelling fuel and found a leak at the disconnect.
I could not locate o-rings anywhere at all, no luck whatsoever.
I ended up buying a kit at harbor freight of lots of random sizes, and ended up finding the right sizes in there.
It was a huge pain to get them out, and even worse to get them in.. but I did it.

Oreillys sells the injector o rings as a pack of 12 believe they are from BWD if you people really insist I could find a part number.
