Hi.. I have a base model 2005 Grand Prix. I was looking up parts for prices and there is no listing for a particular fuel filter for my car.... was wondering where it is located and what I need? It's not one inside the fuel tank is it?
2005 Grand Prix... just standard... no fancy letters on the end. Nothing modified... yet. Maybe in the summer.

I haven't actually looked on my 2005, but I am told that there isnt one.

There is not one listed on GM's Database either.

I have an 05' and i have a recirculating system in my fuel tank. I need to replace mine too and my fuel pump is in the tank so in order to replace, i have to drop the tank. Pretty sure all 04's are located along the frame near the driver side rear wheel.

I thought they were all in tank fuel filters after '03. With the new body style came the returnless fuel system...or maybe I'm just losing it.

100% positive 04's have a fuel filter on driver-side near rear tire and 05+ gp's have the in tank fuel pump. Or so iv come to understand from calling dealers.

I know for certain that the filter is changeable on the 04 model and not on the 06. I never checked on an 05.

So I've been looking for posts relating to the fuel filter location on an '05 Grand Prix (Base Model). I've read posts like this one, and on another website (location of fuel filter on 2005 grand prix - JustAnswer).

Unless I'm just not getting it, we would not be changing/servicing the fuel filter as part of maintenance. Is this correct?

I'm a bit confused because I went to Crappy Tires *coughing* Sorry, Canadian Tire, and I gave them my year, make and model, they sold me an in-house brand "Certified" fuel filter.
I've never looked underneath the car specifically for the fuel filter. The only time I was under the car was for the oil change.

I'm kind of hoping somebody who has been under the car specifically for this year/make/model and for the fuel filter issue can shed some light on this matter (as opposed to listing other years).
I'm worried that maybe the guy sold me a wrong part.

    Lil' help?

It is very clearly visible. Just lay down and stick your head in front of your rear driver side wheel and look straight up. You'll see fuel line coming from the gas tank, a fuel filter, then more fuel lines. Can't miss 'em.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

04 has them, and seams like a few 05s have had them, go under the car and look they will be where the pic in the top of this thread shows, or it is just the screen on the pump.

I've looked under my 04 and haven't seen a filter. I guess I haven't looked THAT close for one. Maybe it was an early-mid year thing and the late 04's don't have one?

I have an '05 Base and I do NOT have an inline fuel filter. The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump itself in the tank. Said that the fuel filter will last the life of the fuel pump. So I wouldn't worry about it unless your having fueling issues, then its probably likely a dying fuel pump.

Edit: My car was manufactured in February of 2005.

It could be the case that an '05 base and an '05 gtp have different pumps. Regardless, if you have an exterior filter, it's made to be changed. If you don't, then don't worry about it. No big deal.

    Well,

It's becoming a bit of a deal now because I'm getting tired of the hesitation from the car.
Anytime I start it up, she hesitates (sputters). Sometimes she shuts off and other times I just press the gas to keep it from shutting off.

I just changed the plugs, so I know it's not that. Maybe a sensor?
Not sure. I know the belt needs to be changed and I plan on changing the alternator as well at the same time.

But this seems to be either a fuel filter / pump issue?
Unfortunately I don't have an OBD II scanner.....yet!

    And MAF sensor.

I had a MAF sensor half-plugged in and my car got all confused. "What is air?" she said. "Do I drink it?"

I know it's been a while since my last post regarding this issue, but you were spot on about the throttle body.

I finally got around to checking it out just a few days ago. WOW....that thing was like pitch black.

Thanks for the suggestion bro. The difference is like night and day. I start it up and now she just goes! Now I do have another problem (which started when I changed my spark plugs a little while ago), but I'm going to see if there's an existing thread on that topic and then I'll post it there or start a new thread.

    Thanks again!
