I recently purchased an '08 GXP as my daily driver. While cruising to work at about 50-55mph I've noticed the RPMs drop and hold steady at 1500. Can this be right? Is the overdrive that tall?

I'm sure it is, but the gearing not the # of cylinders determines RPM vs Speed. I'd like to know more about what makes this thing work.

unless its doing something funny then why would you think something is wrong? its a v8 so they are expecting it to have that power down low. besides, during cruise wouldnt you want the tallest possible gearing in order to get good mileage.

you shouldnt have made a second post, either.

Sorry for not being more clear. The purpose of the post was not to complain that something was wrong. Quite the contrary, the car drives much better than I expected. Now that I am watching it more closely, the simple answer is that the gearing is very tall in OD. It's pulling only 2000RPM at 75MPH. This is my first V8 in 30 years so I'm not used to seeing that kind of performance.

Sorry for the cross post but when I saw the section devoted to trannys I thought putting it there might get me the best answer more quickly.
