Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
I am redoing my Big 3 rewire using 2 0/1ga wires for the grounds from the Alt bracket to the strut tower and from the Neg Terminal on the battery to the engine chassis and I am using a 0/1ga wire from the Alt to the fuse box. The only difference from you Josh is that I am going with this.....
KnuKonceptz High Current In Line 0 Gauge Fuse Holder - eBay (item 220320941701 end time Feb-27-09 09:34:14 PST)
Why?
Well ever since this topic was started I did my original Big 3 without any circuit protection from the Alt to the Fusebox. After reading your posts and Syn's posts about adding "protection" between the Alt and the Fusebox I agreed that was the "safe" thing to do. However my path lead me in the direction of using the circuit breaker I listed above. Mostly for the fact that the Stinger circuit breaker you posted has a higher fail rate over time due to wear on the circuit breaker.
I went to several different car audio forums and asked them and they echoed the same thoughts on the issue. They all agreed they are great in their form, but they just simply wear down over time. Of course everyone had different opinions on the varying degrees on how much wear actually occurs, but it got me thinking about it. So I decided to with this design of circuit breaker instead of the flip switch type you are currently using.
The other benefit of the one I listed is that it runs three seperate fuses, all equal in size totalling 120amps. Just a tad over what our Alts can produce, but not to much to cause an overload if there was a spike or breakdown in the Alt. The concept of the 3 fuse design is to allow more current to pass through efficently without sacrificing its circuit breaking capabilities.
Hopefully in the next week or so when the new circuit breaker arrives I will post up pictures of the complete redo of my Big 3.

You are showing a fuse, not a circuit breaker. If you want to go that route, get a mega-fuse. They are designed for alternators; you will find them on Ford vehicles quite often, actually. There is nothing wrong with using a fuse instead, I just happen to prefer a circuit breaker when it costs the same.

Sorry for the mixed up wording :) I wonder if that mega fuse will work in the fuse holder I ordered? I'll have to find out once it arrives.
Thanks again for clearing that up sir :)

It will not.

Also, I do not know that I buy into this:

There is a reason we run single, large wires in place of several smaller wires, and there is a reason every normal fuse out there is a single blade. I would stick to things that are tried-and-true for an application...which is why I suggest the mega fuse.

Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
STOP following me GEDDYLEE. lol. Thanks for the link, thats what i thought it was. Wouldnt it be better to add the wire from the battery to alternator instead of putting it on fuse-link to alternator????

It would be best to upgrade from the alternator to the fuse box, as well as from the fuse box to the battery.
Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
???? AS WE AS wat. Is there a reason it would be better that way.
Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
i have had the wire hanging in my garage for sometime now.. i guess its time to put it on and see what happens. the big questions is... TO FUSE OR NOT TO FUSE. i think with the right routing and loom you should be ok unfused but as a mechanic i know what the right answer really is ;)

i did the rewire today we'll see how it goes
Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
could you post pics of what you did, im thinking this may be a good idea as well.
Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
I bought a 4 gauge 24" battery cable at autozone and hooked it up to the fuse box and the alt.

Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
so you just did the alt wire, not the grounds?
Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
that dosent make much since to me, wouldnt it be better if you take the factory wire that goes from the alt to the battery and replace it with a bigger wire?
and do the ground while your there too
Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
from the write up geddy lee posted, it says to leave the original wire, add the new one, alt to bat, and then ground the body, and later on they say the engine as well gets grounded to the battery with the body.
i was hoping for bolting locations used, as the write up is not for a GP or regal.
Re: The alt rewire mod actually DOES increase fuel mileage!!
I'm gonna do the grounds tom or sunday i just wanted to make sure the battery cable would work everywhere i wanted it to.
