Does anyone have a rough guess on how much a full engine and trans rebuild would be on a 3.8 Supercharged engine? I just got into an accident in my GT and I am looking for a GTP.. I have found one with 161,000 on it and just want to see how much and how long it would take to get it rebuilt.. Or if anyone knows of any GTP's being sold for under $6000 around the Detroit, Michigan area would be nice to know as well..

so long as normal maintenance was done on the car in the correct intervals it probably doesnt even need a rebuild.

Don't listen to some of the assholes on this site. There are quite a few 3800's around Detroit I'm sure, I live 10 minutes south of Detroit. There's a few junkyards you could probably go to and get whatever you need for cheap. Or just check Craigslist.

I see at least 5 97-03 Grand prixs every day.

If you REALLY wanted to. buy a GP and get TEP tranny then turn to a local shop to build you an engine if you're not able to do so yourself.

Tranny = 1650 - 2500 depending on what goodies you want.

Engine rebuild... Limit on that one is pretty high. Lots of things you can do with these engines.

Just my first time messing around with these cars and I know how reliable the engines are but I dont trust what other people say they did to the car..

It all depends on what you want to do to the car. Keep it stock and it'll be reasonable. I'm under $600 so far on my ex's 04 GTP rebuild. No mods/stock trans though.
