Don't get me wrong...I absolutely love my grand prix. First of all it's a 98 GTP 2 door, silver, loaded, everything but onstar. I'm starting to have problems with it and while I don't mind investing money into this car I have to know it if it's worth it in the end cuz it's gas hog. I guess I should list the problems:

It needs (right now) fuel pump, supercharger coupler, brakes all around, control arm bushings, alignment, back driver hub, cat-back exhaust, driver/passenger window motors, alternator (aftermarket because of stereo system), ac needs serviced, climate control light bulb is burnt out, fuel & air filter, and a driver side door panel. I believe that's it, I mean it's not major catastrophic things it's just starting to nickel and dime me. But I don't have any money set aside for another car and nobody wants to trade. So my question once again....is it worth putting the extra money into it? The paint and body is still flawless.

the thing is, you gotta keep maintence up. if you let these things keep pileing up the list is just gonna get bigger. that goes for any car.

i would start with the drivablity problems first, brakes, bushings, so on, they worry about the creature comforts, door panel, what not.

If you think about it, and you dont have a lot of money saved up and sell your car for $1000 tops, your not going to even get anything close to being as nice as your GP. Just fix the major things it needs now, and save up and fix the little things over time. I bought a 1995 Monte Carlo for $463, put in engine in it, saved up, got a bunch of little parts, bought new (to me) seats for it, it needed a bunch of work but I did it over time and sold it a year later for $3000. It's up to you, but I suggest keep it for sure.

Well, put it this way half your list can be addressed with $150 and a weekend in the garage.

The alternators on GPs have good output, I doubt any stock charging system on a new vehicle would support what ever stereo you’re running.

The bigger ticket items like the window motors and exhaust are where I can see your concern.

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!

Getting another used car will just be a whole new set of problems, you're better off just keeping this one.

If you love the car, all the new parts/work you put into it would be worth it. GP's ftw!!!!

i feel the exact same way, im thinking about selling mine. just put yet another engine in because of a spun bearing (3rd engine since i had the car) and its running crappy because of a misfire. i need some suspension stuff done cause the ride is crappy and it bangs around a lot, as well as exhaust work... and a/c and interior stuff. so ya i know u feel. on a better not i did find a pretty nice 04gto for 13k by me.

I had some of the same issues but kept on top of them and not let it pile up as mentioned above...It is just regular maintenance for an aging car...My wife loves her car because of its ample passenger room and trunk space...It is a real nice car and I agree, it does suck gas...:>)

Dorman window regulators part 741-810 and 741-809 forgot which is left and which is right. though about $94 each at rockauto.com. You can find off beat ones on Ebay for about $35. I wouldn't

Don't get the ones off ebay, I bought some for my old firebird, and the passengers side lasted about a month, and the drivers side was getting slow when I sold it.

I have basically rebuilt my 2001 GP since I bought it used (I had it brand new as a company car) in 2004 with 49,000 miles on it and now 100,000 miles. Never abused but have changed the following:

New Starter, 4 KYB GR 2 struts, GM Perfrormance T/A's, 2 front lower control arms, both front Tie rods, 4 Drilled slotted rotors, magnaflow cat back exhaust, 3 window regulators, new ignition switch, new blower motor resistor, 2 new headlights, 2 blazer fog lights, getting ready to replace the radiator (simply because of the mileage and age, no problems), A/C condenser and receiver dryer (recently went bad, leak, thus the radiator replacement), trans cooler and shift kit (to eliminate P1811 code). I think that does it! All the work I did myself and the total cost for parts is about $2,000. I bought the car for $5,200 in 2004 and have driven it for 6 years for basically $2,000 in repairs, not including basic maintenance. I am actually too far into now to sell, even if I wanted to, the car should be good for about another 50,000 miles before I have to start over. Just my experience!

KEEP IT!!!! As a few others have said, most of the repairs needed involve fairly inexpensive parts-just some time and patience to repair. Lets say it takes even $1000 to fix most of the problems, what are you going to replace it with for $1000?

Fix the drivetrain issues first, then the creature comforts.

    Good Luck!!
