Okay, needless to say I am quite disappointed. For months Ive been planning on buying a HUD from Ed Morad and doing the install myself, into my non-HUD equipped dash on my 02 GP SE. But ive been told by numerous sources that the GPs that came equipped with a HUD also use a specialty glass for the drivers windshield that reflects the images that the HUD projects onto the glass. But this IS NOT the same as a regular windshield that you can pay a $50 deductible and have installed, this "specialty windshield" has something in it to reflect I suppose. So I went to the parts counter of the GM dealership that I work at and they confirmed it: there are two types of windshields that you can order for a 97-03 GP. One is a regular windshield that costs around $175 and the other was priced at around $750!! All i have to say is...WHAT THE F*(K?! Anyone know if this "specialty glass" is even necessary or can I just spray my windshield with Pam or some sh*t??lol, any suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated! This incident just kinda pissed in my cheerios....

From what i gather the specialty glass is not necessary. PM abrasive he's a glass dealer and could tell you more.

alot of guys don't bother with the special one, there is a thread somewhere with pics of it on a standard glass and it looks fine, I think the issue is a bit of ghosting (mine was stock with hud so I can't verify)

The cost of the HUD glass has drastically reduced over the last couple years. My company's everyday price on the DW01289 (HUD glass) is only around $80 more than the DW01288 (non-HUD glass). Both are under $300 installed with tax, labor, urethane and a new molding included.

My HUD works great, my 02 was all plug and play and with the reg windsheild it looks very similar to the special one, only ghosting in some lighting.... I don't even look at my gauges anymore, I don;t know how I drove with out the HUD

Yeah, I have a non-hud glass also, though factory equipped HUD. No complaints from me either.
