Scott Bacon here and I am a new member! And yes, I need some help!

I thought I was handy enough to replace a dead battery on my 05 GXP. It took 45 minutes just to get the dead battery out and after 2+ hours of trying, I still cannot get the new Group 85 battery into the cradle. The fit is so tight that the battery keeps bumping into the side walls.

ANY tricks or help that anybody can provide would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Thanks!
    Scott

Did you get the right battery? The GXP takes a different one than the regular grand prix's. I went to 5 stores and I finally had to order an AC Delco. Just a thought. I am not sure of what the group size is as my GXP is stored for the winter .
When I installed it, it went right in after removing the cross bar. Hope this helps.

Well...I thought I had the right batterysize! I did some research before buying and found that I needed a Group 85 battery. NOW that I search again online, I see that I need a Group 34 Battery. UGH!

Can anyone confirm which in fact is the right battery size?

    Thanks for the reply Timboku!

Was doing a little digging because my battery died. When the battery died several years ago I just replaced it with the size that was in (3585). In doing some digging, it appears a 34 is the correct size. the 34 is physically larger than a 35 or 85. The OP could not get an 85 to fit, but it is smaller than the OE size.

I want to replace my battery with the correct size (and the group 34 are more amps/CCA). I am a little skeptical that it will fit. Is 34 indeed the correct battery size that came in the GXP's?
