My HUD has the dimming problem.. I understand I just need to take a soldering iron to it.. I can probably do it myself, but I hate taking apart a dash board.. and would rather have someone do it that has done it before. I'd be willing to pay someone to fix it for me.. Anyone within 120 miles of the Chicago area interested in fixing it for me? I am willing to pay you for your time. I can even help...

I know it seems a little intimidating, but it's really not that hard. Just take your time with it and be extremely careful not to drip solder all over. If you do its not THAT big of a deal as the board has a protective coating on it. But better safe than sorry.

I thought the board had to be removed in order to solder the part?

I'm actually an electronics engineer so I know how to solder. I'm just concerned about dissembling the trim pieces.. and breaking things.. I guess I can try, but if there is someone that wants to make a few bucks I'm willing to pay.. I'll try to take a look this weekend so if I change my mind I'll have someone lined up..

if you would break any trim, im sure someone here has parts to replace it, or ebay, or morad.

What part of Chicago? I'm on the south side near Tinley Park and I can show you how easy it is, it just takes a little patience but it's hard to break the dash.

^^I realize a stock L36 is not as fast as the sticker implies, but this sticker has worked and it is still a hell of a lot of fun to drive considering it's a grocery sedan.

I'm in the schaumburg area... I am mostly concerned with breaking that little piece in the front with the sensor.. but maybe its easy to take out.. I read the wire were short and its easy to break.. Have you done it before? How's yours holding up? How long does it take?

I have a soldering iron.. I could even come to you..

Maybe I will take a look at it this weekend.. Where were those directions to fix the HUD now...

So I finally took te cover off the dash board.. Looks like I lost 2 clips right in the front.. Hope it goes back in ok.. I haven't soldered the 2 solder joints yet.. So I am looking at this circuit board and its a simple 4 layer card.
With the bottom of the board facing up and the main connector to the left I will describe a few points about the board.. On the surface of the board near one pin of the photodiode(the one on top) you can see the surface trace and where it is connected to the one blue resistor to the right. There is a via right above that. I doubt that is the problem joint due to the surface trace and the pin should make good solder contact with that land... However it would be possible to add a jumper wire from the pin to the resistor pad on the right. For the other pin towards the bottom, You can actually see the trace through the board and it looks like it is connected to a via point about 1/2" to the left. You then can see the surface trace to another blue resistor which is just to the left of the other photodiode pin. I'd be willing to bet that is the problem pin. I would bet if you run a jumper wire from the pin of the photodiode to the blue resistor that would solve the problem forever....

I can post pics if someone wants me to.. I will contemplate doing this and take a picture after the work is done.

    Has anyone tried this?

SO I decided to put it all back together after soldering the photsell. Works great now.. Hope it lasts... I still need to fid 2 clips to hold the dashboard trim down now. Its not real tight like it used to be.. Anyone know where I can get them?

Sorry I never got back, forgot to subscribe to this thread.
I don't think an auto parts store would have the clips I'd try a junkyard or you can email morad parts. Morad Parts Company - 3800 Motors, Transaxles, & Stock Parts
