so i was trying to remove my exhaust tips this afternoon and i read somewhere that i just need to loosen the clamp and beat on them with a mallet. I also heard that there may be some welds on the sides? anyway, i got the tip loose and i was able to turn it maybe 45 degrees each direction, so i think i took care of the welds, but i still could not get it off, it was wiggling back and forth, but wouldn't come out. am i missing something?

no, youre not missing anything. they just get stuck like that for no freakin reason. my suggestion: heat and/or bigger muscles.

get some heat around the pipe section to the tip only, hit with large mallet, if that doesn't work hit harder and get hotter, if that doesn't work get bigger hammer, if still not off... get sawzall, cut pipes, get new tips.

i did it very easy with the mufflers out of the car , but in your case if its still hanging there , use your legs and push the tips left , right , up ,down then you just pull it out ..

If you are getting new ones. You could just cut into the tip with a torch or grinder making two slits, one on each side that run parallel to the ground and that will allow the tip to bend and become bigger.
