Alright, well I just got a call from the dealership and while they were doing the recall on my VC gasket - they noticed that my pressure supply fuel line was spliced and leaking gas?

I did a search and found a recall on the fuel line... but the dealership said it doesn't apply to my car. They want to charge me $120 for parts and $190 for labor... so $310 total.

Is this a known problem on these cars or am I getting screwed over?

    Thanks.

    Niiiiiiice.

You can do the work a whole lot less yourself. Just buy the parts and do it at home. Unless you dont want to jack with it...even still, thats not a good price.

Alright here is the picture to what they were referring to... they said they would replace the entire line... I really have no experience on this stuff, so I don't think I could do it. Anyone in Wisco want to make some cash and help me out? lol.

    Heres the picture...

^^^looks like the previous owner did some riggin on the car, the plastic line needs to be replaced, and I think it only runns to the firewall than connects to a steel line back to the tank...

That can be fixed very easy a few different ways. All you really need is a tubing cutter some wrenches and about $50 and it can be a pretty -6 AN line.

I am absolutely baffled as to why someone would do such a thing. I dont even want to fathom the thought process. But as others have stated, some SS braided fuel line and a few AN connectors, (You can even get the quick connect/disconnect) and you'd be good to go for a whole lot cheaper.

Can someone link me to a how-to or throw me some links about the AN 6 and braided fuel line?

Or how easy would it be to just go with the $120 part and do it myself? What is all involved?

Finally - in its current situation, how safe is it for me to drive it around until its fixed?

RUS-640850 Fuel Rail Fitting, Aluminum, Blue, Straight, 3/8 in., Each $15.39 $15.39
·This part is temporarily out of stock, but you can order it now. Tentative ship date: 4/11/2008, if your order is placed today.

SUM-2200075 Fitting, Hose End, Tube Adapter, Straight, Female -6 AN Hose to 3/8 in. Tubing, Aluminum, Red/Blue, Each $6.95 $6.95

SUM-220690 Fitting, Hose End, Straight, -6 AN Hose to Female -6 AN, Aluminum, Red/Blue Anodized, Each $4.88 $9.76

SUM-230606 Hose, Braided Stainless Steel, -6 AN, 6 ft. Length, Each $20.95 $20.95

    Sub Total: $53.05

If you cant wait for the quick fitting you can just get a second tube adapter and use that on the fuel rail, which it what I would just do.

You could do this with 3' of tubing but you'll be working in a cramped area where the rubber line connects to teh hard line and to me just isn't worth it when I can do it much easier and faster under the car.

    Hose assembly instructions:

Aeroquip Stainless Braided Hose and Fittings Assembly Information

1 tip is to leave 1 layer of tape on the end to keep the end from fraying when assembling.

I appreciate all the links and info on the braided line and quick connects and fittings.... however I already ordered the stock part.

How easy is it to install? I really don't want to pay $190 labor if I could just re-route it myself.

I think you just cut the old off with a razor blade and slip the new one on, but I haven't ever done it.

I don't really know what the part looks like that I ordered... so would I have to route the line from the fuel rail all the way back to the gas tank or fuel filter?

Any diagrams out there? If I was smart, I'd buy a haynes manual.

No, it will be right to the drivers side of the brake booster down a few inches.
