I just sold my Dodge Stealth R/T TT. I'm looking to get into something else... the Grand Prix GTP managed to make it's way on to my list.

I'm a weekend mechanic so I'm not car stupid, but I know every car tends to have it's known trouble areas. What are some things I should remember to look for or check when looking at a GTP?

My next questions is a question of potential. What kind of power or 1/4 mile times can I expect with the "basic mods" list... you know... like the first grand spent on performance? What would need to be done to get it into the mid 13's? Mid 12's?

    Thanks for any advice!

make sure you get one that is BONE STOCK.

    trouble areas:
    - lower intake manifold gasket leaks
    - transmissions get tired if beat on and go away quickly

as far as potential, depending upon money spent and in what areas you can either have a 14 second car or an 11 second car. with a thousand dollars into it (in the RIGHT mods, not what you THINK would work on another car) you might be pushing mid-high 13s if you can drive very well. traction is the name of the game with these cars. with a few thousand dollars you can easily run high 12s, again if you can drive.

With a grand you should be able to break in the 13's

oh ya..these cars had a recall for a potential fire problem..front valve gasket being faulty and dripping oil on exhaust manifolds causing fires..GM dealer will hook you up on that
also know the Mass air flow sensor tends to be a problem after so many miles
and x2 on leaking lower intake manifold gasket + tranny slipping

    hope this helps bro
