I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. The car shifts hard from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd once in a great while. If I stop and shut the car off and start it again it goes away. The car did produce a code of P1811. The vehicle has 91,000 miles on it and I have not changed the trans fluid yet. I have been told it is one of three problems.

The silonoid needs to be replaced: about $500

The trans need to be rebuilt: about $1400

The ingition is going bad: not sure on the amount

I just want to fix this once, with the info I gave above can anyone point me in the right direction.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

p1811 is max adapt long shift... 99.9999percent of the time its a bad pressure control solenoid... pretty easy fix if u have mechanical knowledge or about 250-400 bucks if u dont.

I have been reading about this on the forum. I got an 04 gtp about a week ago. I didn't notice until I tried tried to pass on the interstate that it would shift haed from 4th to third, and had the code checked, and sure enough it was a 1811.

My question is do you replace with the Delco part or is there a better alternative since the delco solenoid seems to do this a lot?

Did you have the same problem I described, or just the same code? I ask because I only have problems downshifting from 4th tho third, and what I read says the kit helps with shifts from 1-3, but the shift I need to happen faster would be from 4th/overdrive to pass? If you had the same experience and the shift kit helped that, I would feel a lot better about installing it.

Ok I got cha. Your probably right, I had problems from 1st to second gear..at around 30 mph it would buck very hard, at the same time the trans pump would start to wine, only when the car was hot. Those were my symptoms and I had that same code. Your problem , I think the kit addresses, cant remember exactly, but the part for that is installed through the side cover.

Have you tried some Sea foam Trans tune?
