your question is very vague. but are your referring to a drop in air filter or a cone filter? and then answer is no u don't have to modify or use any chip to instal a filter. . .

I can get dropins and cone filters from amsoil for ya. I prefer them over K&N because they are dry flow.

You can change out the filter or put on a cold air intake without having to make any adjustments, your MAF sensor takes care of that.
Also, I wouldn’t give any credence to the K&N haters. I have used their filters for 15+ years and never had a problem, although Amsoil filters are just as good.

Pricey, compared to what? One reason I personally use them is they are nearly free over the life of the vehicle. My last car I ran it six years and put on over 80k, and it never needed to be re-oiled. I figure that I saved about $50 instead of using paper filters over the life of my last GP. In my experience with them, they can go about 100k until they need re-oiling. IIRC K&N recommends re-oiling between 50k and 100k, depending on usage. So basically cleaning your filter once about every 5 years sucks?

pricey compared to other filters in the same class, and to not clean your filter for 5 years!!?? Where do you live! We have dust and dirt around here and it happens to get caught in your filter, and you still need to clean it every 25-35k whether it looks dirty or not. I have a BBK setup on my S-10, and an AEM Brute Force on my Jeep, and ANY dry flow its MUCH nicer when it does come that time, and they almost ALWAYS are cheaper then a K&N, again this is a personal preference thing, i'm not jabbing jokes at your wife or something here so calm down killer!
