hello everyone, i have a 01 gtp with 85k and i was wondering if anyone knows what might cause it to shake/vibrate over 65 mph. I feel it mostly in the steering wheel, but passengers can feel it as well. i just had a wheel alignment as well as new wheel bearings and a new cv boot installed. but it still shakes and vibrates. any ideas?

warped rotors if its when you brake, otherwise you have either a bad tire (out of round from belts more then likely) or a slightly bent wheel on the front. Take em to a tire shop and have the fronts spun on the balancer and tell em to look for a bad tire or bent wheel. A random shake in the wheel is always a out of round tire/wheel assembly

edit- if you find a bad wheel or tire throw it on the right rear and you won't notice it at all really until you get it fixed

x2...whenever i get an alignment done, i always have them balance the wheels too. its only a few bucks more and avoids problems like these.

Also jack it up and check the tie rod/ball joints if nothing else works. My car shakes occasionally shakes and haven't had a chance to look at it.

wrong. balljoints and tie rods need to be checked with the car on the ground. you drive around with your front wheels up in the air much? no, the stuff needs to have vehicle weight on it just like if you were driving it. people make this mistake all the time.

huh!!!??? there is no ball joint or tie rod end ever installed on a car that needs to have weight on it. Ball joints on certain 1 ton and 3/4 ton trucks have a very small amount of play new, and you still lift on the control arms with the suspension compressed to check them. How would you check front end parts with the car on the ground?? You may wanna check yours cause you might have a baby killer and not know it. I've done so much suspension work in my life is actually embarasing to me! PLEASE do not check your front end with weight on it, if you feel an issue (other then like strut mounts) with weight your already way late and are pushing fiery crash on your hands

really? ever hear of a load carrying ball joint? which we have on these cars. mcpherson struts run 1 ball joint and its a load carrier. and since you think your not supposed to check steering parts with it not on the ground, look up the precedures for a dry park check.

i just took the car to a tire place about 2 weeks ago and got 4 brand new tires, so it cant be that, they said wheel bearings were shot, and tie rods were so i got new bearings and new tie rods, and more importantly it doesn't shake as much when im accelerating past 65 but when im costing back down from 90 or so, and im not braking at all. could it still be bad rotors?

ball joints don't show play up and down, unless you have pry bar on em and its a pull size truck. If they do then there TOTALLY shot, they show it side to side, hence the 12 o clock and 6 o clock check and the 3 o clock and 9 o clock check. Almost all ball joints out there now are load carrying ball joints, and if thats the case you stick a freakin pry bar in there on top of a shake down. Where do you work so i know to never bring a car there (no offense, just to whoever taught you)

Your rotors would have to be WAY out to feel without braking as said earlier. Even though you have 4 new tires doesnt mean that you don't have a slightly bent rim that they didn't notice or tell you about. Try swapping your fronts to rear and drive it. If it still does it not your problem, if not then there ya go, one of em was bent. Its the cheapest, and fastest thing to check

ok, i wasnt talking about checking his ball joints if you read my first post....steering parts need to be checked with weight on them...they are naturally gonna be more loose with no weight on them than they will with weight on them

and if there loose with no weight that obviously means there is an issue, hence front end parts being all tight, with no play. If they move free then there toast! Only have 7 years and 10 certs in suspension....

before u have the front end rebuilt, get the balance of thr front wheels checked and also tires checked for a broken belt or separation(new tires go bad too). if not those, could be rotors. check the easy sh!t 1st. do not make a mountain outta a molehill.
