Ok,

I looked under the hood of my 04 GT this morning after work, just to make sure everything was, everything. I noticed the there was some grim, crap, dust, leaves etc in the engine compartment.
I come inside and Google tips to cleaning you engine. Im thinking that you take a little bit of time, maybe some degreaser and go at er, but no, out comes the plastic wrap and the pressure washer. I was amazed! Maybe its just me, maybe Im the idiot that wouldnt spray water at my engine but looking at the components and all the little nick nacks that are under the hood, you must be ****ing kidding me.
Enough with the rant and rav.
Is there any tips you guys can suggest to clean and detail the engine compartment. REMEMBER I have that interior and exterior detail coming up, I might as well get the most for my money..... OH YA, those fart cannons... LOL

and if you say to spray it down with a pressure washer, ummmmm...... fine, as long as it PROPERLY covered. What do I cover except the obvious alternator, battery connectors, obviously anything electric.

On my last GP, I hosed it down. I was really careful not to spray the electronic crap, but I only covered the alternator. It looked great, but I fried a sensor. So make sure you cover up everything.

The good news is, if you do it once and don’t break something your home free for follow cleanings.

yet another thing i like more about my fairmont then my grand prix. i take my 30 year engine into the car wash bay, take off the air cleaner, wrap up the carb with a plastic wal mart bag, and just start spraying.

i spray the battery, alternator, and pretty much everything else electric. if its under the hood it gets pressure washed. the only thing i make sure of is that NO water gets into the intake (carburetor)

i certainly wouldnt do this to my grand prix, and am also looking forward to reading suggestions on how to clean it......

i've sprayed mine off for years without any problems. All I use is the engine/tire cleaner at the car wash. Once a year I clean the whole engine bay with Simple Green.

I don't really cover up anything, I just use common sense. I don't spray the alternator directly or my CAI. Also I don't spray at full blast, I let the sprayer spray in idle mod so its more gentle. By doing this method i've always had a nice and tidy engine bay. The results speaks for themselves...

Shawn can vouch and so can Brian (GeminiOKC) if he ever gets on here anymore...I cleaned his engine bay...wish he would post his Branson pics Tire FOAM...1st spray everything with it...let it soak. Then wipe off access and respray to get it nice and shiny. The deal is the Foam has a detergent in it that cleans the black plastics/rubbers, etc.

The engine bay gets wet when you drive, so spraying it down with a hose won't do anything harmful. I always covered the coil packs, alternator, and air filter (if exposed). Hell, my current car has a hole in the hood and its fine. Water drips through the TMIC, onto the engine with no issue.

I follow the same as IronIndian... except I learned form a mechanic buddy if you are unsure of the tune up on the car, spray cleaner on it (not alt/air cleaner), start the car and hose it off. Leave the car running til it's good and dry. That way you shouldn't have issues with water getting into connections.

All our connections are water proofed, so if the car is in decent shape there should be an issue.

Yeah, I can vouch, my ***** Nick can detail an engine bay pretty well......

Seriously though, Brian's engine bay was pretty skanky it needed some help. Nick fixed him up good. You just pressure washed it with tire/engine cleaner at a car wash before detailing, did ya Nick?

I haven't heard from Brian in quite a while, I need to give him a ring sometime. Been busier than hell lately getting the baby stuff ready before he comes!
