    Hello Everybody,

My Dad recently purchased a 2006 GXP from a local dealership, and decided the stock Monsoon sound system just wasn't enough. He put infinity reference component speakers all around except for the middle speaker in the dashboard.

    Here is the problem:

No matter what, he can't get any bass to come out of the rear speakers. We think it might be a compatibility problem with the speakers and the stock monsoon amplifier. Has anybody else come across this problem? The head unit is an Alpine IDA-x100. Also, I was wondering if somebody might have a diagram for the amplifier?

Well, anything you guys may know about this, please let me know.

P.S: Please don't recommend that we purchase a subwoofer.

    Thanks,
    Bill

This should be in the audio section. You probably will get a lot more answer there.

Go out and buy some 4 or 6 channel amps instead of that monsoon one. Then re wire your whole car with new speaker wire and to the external amps.

    Ok, I won't. Get a Tactile Transducer

Triple check all of your settings and connections from your head unit to your amp. It's better to know for sure rather than going out and buying a new amp

The rear speakers for monsoon have 4 wires going to each one, 2 for the high, 2 for the low (bass) so its like a speaker and a sub in each one.

This would be the reason your likely not getting any bass.

I have a question for you then. Does this mean that only high or low (probably low) is coming from the amp then? And the other would be straight off the HU?

Everything comes from the stereo (LF,RF,RR, RL) in low level and goes to the amp, the amp then takes this and sends the bass and the highs to the proper speakers.
Im not sure of a way to get around this, but im thinking maybe specialized places like stereo shops may have an adapter to combine the two out puts from the amp into one...I will look on monday for some diagrams and info on the operation of this system so you can get an idea of how it works and such.

Had a very similar problem with a lack of bass, with the stock monsoon head unit. After days of searching finally called a dealer and got a wiring diagram for the plugs into the amp. I have an 04 Grand Prix GT, not 100% sure the amp is the same, but it most likely is, maybe this will help

    (Smaller Plug)
Pin A/Lt Grn - Right Front Speaker Output +
Pin B/DK Grn - Right Front Speaker Output -
Pin C/Gray - Left Front Speaker Output -
Pin D/Tan - Left Front Speaker Output +
    Pin E/ Orange - Battery +
    Pin F/Black+White - Ground
Pin G/Yellow - Front Center Speaker Output +
Pin H/Lt Blue - Front Center Speaker Output -

    (Larger Plug)
Pin A1/Gray+Black - Amp. Present Signal
    Pin A2 - NOT USED
Pin A3/Purple - Radio On Signal
Pin A4/Brown+White - Left Rear Low Level Signal +
Pin A5/Brown - Left Rear Low Level Signal -
Pin A6/Dk Grn - Left Front Low Level Signal -
Pin A7/Tan - Left Front Low Level Signal +
    Pin A8/Tan - Amplifier Control
Pin A9/Dk Blue - Right Rear Speaker Output +
Pin A10/Lt Blue - Right Rear Speaker Output -
Pin A11/Brown - Left Rear Speaker Output +
Pin A12/Yellow - Left Rear Speaker Output -
    Pin B1/Lt Green+Black - Rear Subwoofer Output -
    Pin B2/Dk Blue+White - Rear Subwoofer Output +
    Pin B3 NOT USED
Pin B4/Black - Right Rear Low Level Signal -
Pin B5/Dk Blue - Right Rear Low Level Signal +
Pin B6/Lt Green+White - Right Front Low Level Signal +
Pin B7/Lt Green - Right Front Low Level Signal -
    Pin B8 NOT USED
Pin B9/Black - Left Front Tweeter Output +
Pin B10/Yellow - Left Front Tweeter Output -
Pin B11/Lt Green - Right Front Tweeter Output +
Pin B12/Purple - Right Front Tweeter Output -

Michael, it's been a while but... I'm up against it too. Did you uncover any way around the 4-wire (mid and bass) outputs from the monsoon amp to an aftermarket, 2-wire speaker without hacking up the speaker?

Get rid of the stock amp and get a different one. You can get a decent 4 channel amp for around $50 used and it'll work just find for your needs. Also I suggest running new wires - It's not as difficult as it sounds.

I installed Infinity Reference all around and connected the only the low pass to the rear. I want to re-connect the 3", 2ohm speakers to the high pass and use the factory bracket. Does anyone know where I can get only these? Does anyone have two they want to sell?

I paid big $’s for the Monsoon upgrade in my ’06 Grand PrixGXP. It was a huge mistake! As I kept blowing speakers all around, I decided toupgrade all the speakers with aftermarket but it was a challenge to find 2 ohmand 3 ohm speakers that would fit. Finally, I did it! I’m a true audiophile andthe sound is HUGE.

The solution is simple. I used Infinity Reference all around;in the dash, the doors, and even in the rear deck. I bought two 9602ix 6”x9”,two 6502ix 6 ½”, three 3002cfx 3 1/2”, and two 075tx 3/4” tweeters. I shopped, bought online, and paid less than $375 for everything.

Everything fit and I kept all the factory harnesses intact.I simply clipped the leads from the crappy paper speakers and connected them directlyto the Infinity’s.

The only challenge was the rear deck but it turned out to befairly simple. I took my Dremel and cut the enclosure part off the X bracketthat held the 3” crappy mid woofers and mounted the Infinity 3002cfx directly tothe arms of the modified X bracket. I had plenty of clearance, since I didn’tmount the 6”x9”s to the plastic, snap-in, speaker bracket like the stock ones.Instead, I literally just dropped the 6”x9” speakers right into the cutout inthe back deck. Then I snapped the factory speaker bracket on top of thespeaker, making a super tight mount without any fasteners. I connected the lowpass to the 9602ix’s and the high pass to the 3002cfx’s.

Done! I know I lost a lot of the frequency response from allof the speakers because of the Monsoon amp/crossover but it was relativelyinexpensive and an easy installation. The sound I have is nearly competition. Ihope this helps everyone trying to do the same.

Also, If anyone wants to purchase the factory speakers Ipulled out, hit me up in a private message. I have them all except the 3” midwoofers that were blown.

The best way and route i will be going is either an audiocontrol summing module or an kicker Summing module. Bring all your signals together and creates one. There are other such as the Fosgate threesixtey.1. All will get the job done but you will be needing a 4 channel amp to drive speakers. The stock monsoon leaves us with not much to work with.
