Whats the limits one can push a 3.8 with the correct valvetrain? Id like to see a 3.8 that turns like 8000 rpm that has fast throttle response and revs free and quick. Anyone know if anybody has done like a 8000rpm 3.8?

I've been told that GM factory bearings start to fail at 6400 but i could be incorrect on that. I'm not sure on the 8000 you would have to have one stout bottom end i would think.

You get a big enough cam and put dual valve springs on there with comp OE-R lifters and get your pre-load set right where it should be I'd say you could spin 8000. You'll need an ATI balancer though. They are certified to 8k I believe. It WOULD NOT be a daily driver though lol

The engine can be put together to be free flowing and rev very quickly. I'm not sure about the 8K but quick revving is not an issue for the 3800.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

The TTGT would be one of the only cars that rev that high. They were revving out to 6800 on the stock l67 block, now they put in a race block.

"The car was unable to put down any more power based on the trans/torque converter limitations. With the lighter pistons and larger cam, I plan on raising the shift points from 6800 to 7200 in search of a little more converter efficiency." - Matt M

Here is one of the test runs on this setup-
    YouTube - TTGT 8.83 at 159

It WOULD NOT be a daily driver though lol
I kinda laughed after I read this, still far from a DD though:
"I took this car on a few mile trip with my 5 year old today to get ice cream. We got a lot of strange looks. It really drives down the road pretty well. I'm looking forward to the changes we have planned for this winter. This car will be seeing a lot more street time starting next year." - Matt M

They drove it home from the track when it broke into the 8's... The plates read "TTGT" and they say the tags are up to date... although he wasn't running street tires, slicks and skinnies.

there is a twin turbo v6 4.3 out of a syclone or a typhoon i believe thats making over 1000 hp and revs over 7500 on nelson race engines. NRE TV by Nelson Racing Engines - "We Build Horsepower!" I didnt say I was doing this and could careless what the cost was i just wanted to see if had been done. Now my question is any one think the same thing could be applied to a 3.8? N/A or supercharged? Im thinkin it could be done but would like anything else take way deeper pockets than any one would sink into a DD.

speaking of gears if some one wanted to make a car fast off the start what gears would you run in the trans and how would changing the torque converter affect it ? I wonder how "quick" i could make a GT feel? anything over 80mph really isnt usable to me any way its a DD and i put on a ton of highway miles.

you can go with as high of gears as you want, provided you have grip and dont run out of gear on the top end...3.29's are pretty common for our cars. You just could get a stall to help you launch, but then it probably wouldnt lock out on the highway very well if you went with too high of an RPM on the stall....

i was thinkin buick intake and direct port nitrous, rollers and a cam. Id like some thing different than every one else yeah a supercharger or turbo is more effective dollars wise but i bet N/A with a hit would be more reliable and powers there when I press the squeeze.

zzperformance.com has a gt cam and i would look into the hv3 (its in the air induction section) along with some exhaust work and some spray along with getting it custom tuned and im sure it could ride out.
