I have a 2002 Grand Prix with a 3.1 V6 and the problem I have is this.. at first it only did it when it was hot but now all the time. When I go to start the car i just hear a click from the starter solinoid and no crank then when I release the ign key back to run the lights are dim for about 30 seconds or so and the battery vents sometimes during this evolution. So first I took battery to autozone and they "said" it was good at 12.6 volts. So with that in mind I went back put on charger just in case and cleaned all connections on battery and starter. and when cold it started, by cold of course 70 to 80 degrees ambiant air temp. for about a week it was fine went to commisary and it decided it did not want to start agian. so I had towed home when to work that night and in the morning it started... so figuring the next step is the starter and so I replaced that with a tested good one and no joy even if cold just a loud click from new starter but no crank. I am able to move the flywheel with a little bit of elbow grease with a flathead so I dont think it is locked up. and right now in the process of checking all wiring which is no fun at all. but besides that could I just bypass with a push button start to remote terminal in starter and ign in run??? thanks for any advice in this matter!!

Did AutoZone test the battery under load, such as when starting the engine, or just slap a battery volt meter on it and say it was 12.6?

just as a update I did replace the starter after the whole battery was good according to the guy at autozone saying it was good but still no joy. So at that point I was told I might have a short somewhere in the system so I took a entire weekend and followed all the wiring in the starting system from battery to pnp switch to the ignition and all around and the wiring seemed good so with my current knowledge of electrical in Naval aircraft and such it still all pointed to the battery. so I went out to wallymart and got a battery and behold it fired right up!!! and its been running now for a good week and a half. The test equipment the guy at autobonehead's brought out looked kinda like a multimeter just a bit larger and I asked him at the time if he load tested it and he said yes.
