im in the process of installing a new motor as the old one is developing a bottomend rodbearing. well i had to remove the oil filter housing on the new motor to be able to drop the new motor into the car. i cleaned the paper gasket on the filter housing and since i did not have a replacement paper-gasket, i just used the gm rtv gasket and laid a bead along the edges where the old gasket existed. is this ok to use or should i unbolt the filter housing and order an oem paper gasket from the dealership? i also used teflon sealant on the 4 bolts. any advice and suggestions is greatly appreciated!

If it seals with the RTV it is fine. If it leaks oil buy a gasket.

i suppose, but has anyone ever sealed the housing with rtv instaed of the oem paper gasket? is there a reason t be worried if using just rtv?

As long as you put enough RTV on it and did not leave any gaps you should be fine. The army uses no gaskets when they rebuild the diesels in the Humvee's just the right stuff RTV.
