So...I know that it's generally recommended that 1.9 and zzp er rockers use stiffer springs with shift points above 6000 (although there is some debate). Currently, I'm running an '02 GP GT. Not many mods so far, not too many planned. I've currently got the TDC intake, NGK 55s, and an Overkill PCM. I'll be adding a 2.5" catted DP, the HV3 intake insert, and maybe a plog. I'm also looking at using rockers as the final piece to get this car where I want it.

so my question is, if I were to use 1.8 modified rockers with a shift point around 6200-6300, would stock springs be ok? And would I notice a power difference? I'm mechanically inclined but have a limited supply of tools, and I'm in Montana so there isn't crap for tuning support up here (everyone drives trucks, I hate it). I'm trying to avoid changing the springs because I don't want to risk dropping a valve.

All in all, would ER, 1.9, or 1.8 rockers be okay with stock springs and a shift point at 6300? What would be the best option? Or am I going to have to bite the bullet and do the springs too?

    Any help would be great.

    Phil

no reason to go that high in the RPM range. youre making no power up there. leave your shifts at 6000 or below.

That's an estimate. I know it goes a touch above 6000 (just into the red on the gauge), so it's likely around 6000-6100, but Im still worried more about when valve float would start to show up with the various rocker options. so assuming the 6000 to 6100 rpm shift, what would be my best option?

if it hits 6000 on the tach then youre probably shifting at 5800. the tach is off on everyones car. leave it there or bump it to 6000 if you like. there is really no reason to go any higher than the stock shift points since you dont make power up there with rockers. with a cam maybe, but not rockers.

Thanks bio, didn't know the tachs had a tendency to be off. I had a gut feeling they were. But I'm still wondering what rockers are recommended. If i'm shifting right at about 6000, my research says 1.9s should be okay with the stock springs. Is there anyone running a similar setup that can vouch for success/failure?

i run stock springs on modded 1.9s right now. never had an issue with valve float and i beat my car like it owes me money. thats why its broke.
