Maybe this should be in the lounge I didn't know. Anyways I am looking at a 1998 gtp coupe. It is loaded with 195,000 miles. It needs a fuel pump, brakes and rotors(look bad and pulsating), supercharger coupling(sounds like rocks), alternator?(bad whining from alternator?), and new front pass. tire and shock mount?(shock moves around on top of tower. Maybe bad mount idk. Guessing it is the reason for the bald tire.

He is asking 1700. Car is pretty much rust free and the other 3 tires are great. I drove the car some. Does this seem like too much work and money to put into it? Thanks

Well it depends. Can you do the work your self or will you have to pay someone to do it?

the passenger tire is the power tire fyi so it could be from that or some one doing burnouts
personally go for it and to a complete rebuild on the front end and engine
look at the back area where the doors close thats a easy rust spot

I can do all the work my self.

I noticed the strut nut moving side to side when the tires turned and when pushing the car down and loading the suspension.

I noticed surface rust on the rockers but very minimal. It is hard to tell on these cars with all that plastic side skirts.

If it is a good runner and looks good I say go for it. Get the parts you need and then some extras that you dont ie mods. For the coupler go to Welcome To TDC Racing it will last the life of your supercharger.

I'm just worried about getting another car that breaks me lol. I think it's a great price even with the mileage and work needed. Most I see go for twice that.

Btw, nice to see some Iowegians on here lol.

these cars run forever and take a massive amount of abuse so long as you take care of the big things. i say do it.

If the car's in that bad shape, then it probably wasn't taken care of very well. You never know what you'll find once you start taking it apart. By the time you're done, the cost of getting it running could be well over the cost of one in good shape. If it were me, I'd pass.

As someone who was in a similar situation I would pass on it. I regret buying my GTP.

as with almost any vehicle with that high of mileage there will be some issues with it. If the drivetrain seems solid and runs well(motor tranny cv joints) the rest is fairly minor as far as cost to repair. Any vehicle with this many miles just will not be maintenance free. I had to fix mine up some, but I did know this going into it. If you like the car buy it.....

The thing is I only have 2000 to spend so I know whatever I buy will most likely need work. Plus most gtp's are going for more but that is still with the same mileage in the same shape so I think it's a good deal but who really knows.

    I am in Ames.

honestly, you wont know if it is worth it until after you buy it if there is anything wrong that you missed, but for a 2000 dollar budget you probably wont find a better deal for a gtp. I hope you have at least 1000-1500 dollars available to stick back into once you start fixing all of these issues..........if you dont then plan to drive a broken car, or dont buy it at all and get a cavalier........unfortunately it is all about the available funds to you.

well I'm planning on 1500 for the car and I can get the parts needed for round 500ish. If there is anything else wrong it will just have to sit for awhile.

I'd buy it. I've seen multiple SE's listed around here for $4500 with 140-160k miles on them.
Guessing it is the reason for the bald tire.
Bingo. The left rear did this on my '98. The strut shaft hole in the mount was twice as big as the shaft.

yeah.........plus it is above the 2000 that you wanted to spend total. And when you would be done you still would not have a gtp.....
