yea man send me one too...haha...jk...dude here is my question..why would you want your wife, who from what you have said isnt into performance and whatnot an intake? All they do if you dont have other mods is make noise and reduce milage. but if other mods were present then thats why we put them on....

Don't know what kind of intake you buy, but they definitely don't do either of those things unless you drive a Geo Metro, or stay in the throttle 99% of the time.

have you calculated milage before and after intake? hey, im not saying that i dont have an intake cuz i do and i love it...but getting performance gains and better milage is usually like having your cake and eating it too

Intakes are proven to give better MPG's, granted I installed my intake, 3" catless downpipe, 3" custom exhaust, and new plugs/wires all in one sitting...so not sure on how much the CAI added, but I gained nearly 4-7 mpg's on the highway depending IIRC.

Intake will definitely increase mileage, even if no other mods are done. Will probably replace downpipe/ubend delete and call it done. Mods that wont adversely affect how she percieves the car (e.g. loud, etc.. like my GTP with 3" and magnaflows!) but yet improve MPG, which these should do.

If it is a '04+ they don't have a U-Bend, so if your wanting better MPG's and Performance...Get the TDC FWI, ZZP Bolt-In 3" Catted Downpipe, and you'd be good to go...if you got it tuned it would get even better gas mileage though...

Oh, guess I missed that part...anything Series III didn't have a U-Bend IMO...but if it is a Series II MCSS then it prolly has one.

out of curiousity, why 3"? since he's not really doing any other flow mods besides a possible CAI, wouldn't the 2.5 be a better setup on that motor.

it's still supercharged, so getting the exhaust out as fast as possible is better. if it were N/A, then yeah 2.5 would be fine...

realistically the 2.5 is probably fine too, but 3 is not a bad choice

whats the diameter of the stock DP? isnt it like 2.3? so a 2.5 doesnt really sound like its worth the money to me...

IIRC it is 2" But, anything boosted and is using 2.5" is epic failure...get a 3" and let that car properly breathe.

I have my second "I'm tired from lack of sleep, here is my dumb question" question for the day.

If exhaust is going through smaller openings out of the engine, combining together into a "medium" size pipe, and then getting put through, say a 3" downpipe (even bigger) and then reduced down again to stock exhaust after the u-bend, how is the bigger downpipe helping?

I've installed a TDC FWI, front PLOG, and a 3" catted downpipe in my 2000 GTP, and have always wondered this. Maybe it is just me being tired, but it seems that air is flowing nicely until it gets past the downpipe and then gets shoved into a smaller opening. I know that the 3" downpipe has a reducer on the end of it to make it 2.5" to hook up to stock.
Currently driving a 2006 Grand Prix GT - Stock
2000 GTP was killed by 16 year old - Nov 20, 2010 - It only had 74,000 miles, a ZZP 3" Catted Downpipe, ZZP SS PLOG, FWI, 180* T-Stat, Flipped Dog Bones, GMPP Sway Bars, G2 painted Rotors and Calipers, HUMount, and was Dexcool free!

It is because the catback has been dyno tested to show only flowing issues with cars making 350+ WHP. It flows very well even for the fact it goes from a 3" DP to a 2.25" catback, or whatever it is. In other cars, sure...it might be a issue, but not these

also keep in mind that you have other factors affecting flow before the downpipe ends( both oxygen sensors and in some cases a hi flow cat.....these all affect the flow(slow it down or cause turbulence) and the only thing after that is the res but then it splits to two pipes....even though each of the two are smaller. Anything that you can do to help reduce backpressure out of the motor will help.
