I have a '99 Gt if you couldn't guess by my username. I tried searching the site for a solution and couldn't find an answer so I thought I'd make my own post. I have a stock security alarm and it likes to set itself off randomly. It'll be sitting outside the house, then out of no where you'll hear the horn. It goes off 5 times then it's fine. It doesn't do it every so often, but just at it's own free will. My guess is a short in the circuit somewhere but I have no knowledge of alarms so that's why I'm here. It has done it for a while but now has gotten annoying. Has anyone had this problem before or any solutions to my problem? Thanks!

I scrapped the factory "alarm" in mine (ok I bypassed it and deactivated it) could be the module is going bad, or a bad shock sensor, not sure where they are located, but I can tell you if you shut it off it won't go off, and with it on it won't stop anything (especially if it goes off randomly it just causes people to not notice)

Yeah I know what you mean. Maybe once I get some extra money I'll put a different one in. How do you deactivate it? Just pull the fuse (if there is one)? I know nothing about the system.

in the owners manual it tells how to do it, it involves the key fob, ignition switch and door lock if memory serves (been a long time since I did it)

Awesome thanks. Might leave it hooked up for the time being, hate to have my stereo stolen lol. I try to park close my house, but sometimes I can't.

Really? Guess I would never have thought that the manual would have that. I will have to check it out within the next couple days when I have time. Thanks

Alright so I tried to change the stock settings a couple minutes ago. Ok, when you take out the mall pgm fuse and turn the key to acc you are supposed to hear 2-4 chimes depending if your car is in mode 2-4 right? When I do this I hear a total of 5 chimes. So anyway, I went ahead and tried to change my alarm from mode 4 to mode 1 (less sensitivity) by turning the parking lights on then off. This was supposed to chime according to the mode it was in. It never chimed at all. So I tried to turn the key off and back on to see if the initial chimes would change but they didn't. Any ideas? Do I need to have the stock cd deck in to do this? Might seem like a dumb question but I just remember hearing the later model Impalas used their stock deck to change many features. Thanks

no i dont think you have to have the factory radio. with 5 chimes i have no idea. I went through my book to see if you missed something but i dont see anything. my only guess would be to put the fuse in and start over.

Yeah I have no idea either. Maybe I'll try it again tomorrow and see if the same results happen who knows.
