    Hi,

Today I took my 2004 grand prix in to the dealer. They hooked it up to the computer and told me that I had to have the Evaporator Control Valve replaced.

They charged me $130 for using the computer and want to charge me $340 to replace the valve. On top of that they also made me pay for $170 throttle body service before they would even look at the problem.

Does anyone think I'm getting riped off here?

I called a local mechanic and he told me the Valve is only around $50.

What really upsets me is why this isn't covered under my extended warranty. Such a part should be covered since there appears to be so much labor involved. How could such a job fall under normal maintenance on the vehicle?

At this point, I'm about to tell them that they should just disconnect the sensor so it stays open. Why should I pay them that much money for something I don't need?

Don't pay them a nickel. You didn't even want your throttle body cleaned, you could have done it yourself. Buy the part from the parts dept. for $50 or whatever and install it yourself. Then with the $400+ saved...go buy some nice chit for your car

well I asked them to disable the sensor, but the lady told me they won't disable anything.

I guess I will have to figure out how to do that myself.

You are correct, I think will just install it myself. How long can it take anyway? $280 for labor is crazy.

Sorry...I'm mainly a '97-'03 L67 person...if the Evaporator Control Valve is the same thing as the EVAP on our cars...then MAYBE 5-10 minutes if you have never done it before...
