    Mmmmkay....next problem :-(

First, my vent blower was going 100% even when the car was off with key removed....great....pulled the fuse, lost the use of "5". No big deal.

Then, "1" and "2" died, leaving me with just "3" and "4". No problem, air is still moving, i'm good.

    Yesterday....nothing works. And it's cold.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Could the contacts on the rheostat need point filed?

Would i be better off taking it to the dealer and say "have fun?"

and/or i have the 3 knob manual.....would i be able to swap in a dual climate analog or even the dual climate digital model instead?

Do you have any other electrical issues? If it were the ignition switch, you would probably see some issues with the Drivers Information Center, the radio and possibly other accessories. I think that perhaps you probably have just a bad blower resistor module from the sound of it.

it's a ghost. Would the resistor hold power after the car is off though? I think switch also, but might as well change the resistor if it's the original it will probably fail eventually

Could be more than one issue as well. #5 can go out all by itself and you still have 1-4 functionality if the resistor goes bad. Ignition switch would cause and issue with 1-4 and other accessories.

I would lean more towards a bad resistor. I would start by changing that and see where that takes you.

It's a bad resistor. Had the problem in my old 97 GT and currently have it in my brothers 99 Grand Am. I had it replaced at the dealer before but from what I have heard, it's not very hard to do.

Also, in response to your digital climate swap, can it be done? yes. is it worth it? no. There is a tremendous amount of cutting and splicing of wires in order to get it to work. The Digital Clime Control is controlled by a single connector in the back of the unit. The knob units are wired individually to each switch.

For the most part, replacing the resistor is kind easy. However, most of your time will be spent getting two bolts that hold the resistor in place loose enough to get the resistor out. I spent $40 in craftsman tools to get the one I needed to just turn those blasted bolts a few turns.

mmkay, i'll look into the resistor

    This job here?

eBay Motors: Bonneville Blower Module Resistor HVAC Heater AC (item 230082802647 end time Feb-17-08 15:24:31 PST)

and what about the Dual analog control

eBay Motors: 2004 Chevy Impala Climate Control HVAC Heater AC A/C (item 230213144816 end time Feb-13-08 17:39:27 PST)

Not that specific one, but the one for the Prix that looks similar

Man, that Bonneville blower motor resistor is vastly different than the one for the GP. But the seller is Ed Morad and he is a GREAT guy and if you contact him for anything he will get you hooked up. I dont know about the dual climate control, I already have it so Im not sure what would be required to switch to that.

I would need to see that back of that unit. Also, I haven't had to look at the back of those units in years. Do you currently have a 3 knob control in your car or a 2 knob with dual climate?

The other thing you could do is, I've seen Reptile post up different wiring diagrams. If he works at a dealership or has access, you might want to see if he can find the charts for your GP and an Impala unit to see if they require the same wires.

I do have the GM eSI program, didn't think to look there >.<

And I have the 3 knob control currently, yes

I'd try getting the wiring diagrams to see if it is the same. I would imagine that the wires going to the knobs would be similar. Not sure about the dual climate controls.

Anywho, like I said, start with the wiring diagrams
