Try a different auto parts store. I once had a manager at Autozone tell me that the S/C gasket was a GM part only and that having a factory supercharger on my Grand Prix was rare. I was like and left laughing my ass off after making him look stupid in front of other customers.

2-5% of vehicles around here have L36's.

    0.20 to 0.50 % have L67's.

That makes 'em a little uncommon.

I can get solid numbers next time I'm at work if you please.

We are not talking about your area or mine. I am talking total production numbers.
Post the break outs if you can between GT and GTP. I can not find that information and apparently Don Keefe wasn't able to either.

    Total production:

This information pulled from Don Keefe's book- Grand Prix Pontiacs luxury performance car.

    1997- 159,140

1998 Daytona Pace Car Replica exclusively in Gulf Blue
    1500 total units

1998- total production is 142,346 (including Pace car)

    1999- total production 155,317 units

2000- Galaxy Silver Daytona Pace Car Replica- 2000 models built
total production 172,811 including Daytona Pace Car Replicas

2001- total production 130,527 units produced (Special Edition and Widetrack Smart production figures included.

No further production numbers are available for subsquent years.

I emailed Pontiac a few years back asking for specefic breakdown in color, trim, year, engine. The response I got went along the lines of; we didn't keep track of that specefic of production numbers just total production numbers.

Those are some large production numbers and even if you could do a break out I seriously doubt the GTP to be rare for the production years available.

Does that mean you can't find the production totals between a Gt and GTP?

    I wasn't aware I should be looking.

It seems the word you were looking for was uncommon.

And the term "rare" should be reserved for the mary kay edition.

You said they are rare not I. The Autozone manager said they are rare, then you replied with they are.
You also mentioned you could post up production numbers of the GTP's. Which I doubt you could find seeing how no one knows And Pontiac didn't keep track. And no GP is rare in my eyes or uncommon. They produced too many of them to be considered either. If someone use the term rare and GTP then most of the time they are refering to the Daytona or Pace car replica. GTP's are far from rare or uncommon in the US.

I'm curious how many Pacer X's were built, can you get that info too?

    txslow6,

I apologize for overstating the rarity of this vehicle.

However, I would appreciate your co-operation in re-reading the following piece to ensure you fully understand what it is I said.

Thanks for proving yourself wrong once again. And thanks for not posting those production numbers you said you could get from your work. Just goes to show that they are not out there even though you thought you could get them.

    I never did.

Edit: Moved, cluttering up other thread.

Just to put this out there:

    http://www.compnine.com/vid.php?vin=1g2wp52k7wf331038

Found 58,000 vehicles matching your year and model in our database.

58 000 four doors in 98 on file.

    37,747 with RPO L36

    20,253 with RPO L67

    http://www.compnine.com/vid.php?vin=1G2WP1210WF259325

Found 35,377 vehicles matching your year and model in our database.

    35 377 2 door

    12,345 with RPO L67

    23,032 with RPO L36

I realize this only accounts for 93 377 vehicles of the 142,346 you claimed were produced.

But thats 93 377 more than you were able to account for.

Based on this, the GTP is far from uncommon.

However I still stand by the statement that in my area, they are uncommon.

As long as we're playing what we feel is the definition of a term, we'll never agree.

So you go do some more homework now.

This thread has no beginning that I'm aware of..

So my take is ...if you guys are looking for production numbers for L36's and L67's. You are missing a bigger production number. GM produced tons of these engines. They came in stuff besides GP's
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I guess you missed were I posted the info was from Don Keefe who wrote the book "Grand Prix
    Pontiacs Luxury Performance Car."

The website you posted also says my car is a 1 of 1.

I'm not saying the website is terrible or wrong just that I find it funny to hear a Grand Prix be a 1 of 1.

Grand Prix's are neither rare nor uncommon. And talking about the supercharged 3.8's they as well are not rare or uncommon. As pointed out they came in more than just Grand Prix's.
