I've got an '00 GP 3.8 NA serving as a 3rd vehicle. Which means it's parked outside. This is the 1st spring (and spring rains) during which we've owned it.

After the first several-day period of rain, my wife went out to use it and found 1/2" of standing water on the front passenger floor. The door & window weatherstrip all looks quite good, and my wife is fairly confident that she sees signs of the water coming in from somewhere behind the dash (it's definitely not coolant). I just haven't had time to go out there and really look at it. The car sat completely undriven during this period of several days, so it doesn't have anything to do with splashing, etc.

We've got everything dried out for now, but what would be the most likely sources of entry? Has anyone else experienced this, and if so what was the fix?

Thanks for any and all input!
    Mike

it is the cowling where the windshield wipers sit. when you take it off youll see a hole there where the heating/cooling pulls fresh air. basically pours straight in.

you need to make sure the cowling is sealed and water cant just roll in through there.

Thanks Bio, is there some sort of seal there that would have failed? And can all this be accessed through the cowling, or am I looking at pulling the dash?

nope, you access it all from outside the car. you might want to invest in some clear sealant to goop up on the underside of the cowling. there is also a rubber deflector piece that might have fallen partially off. stick that back on with some more sealant.

theres accually a part avalible from the dealer, cant remember the number but was only a $5 part that makes a rain gutter. The amount of money youll spend on the part is the same if not less then what you would spend on sealant not to mention much less agrivating. there is a write up somewere on the part and how to install it

Thanks, Slow. Any idea what I would search for on that? I tried searching for "rain gutter" and "gutter" but the search tool just hangs. Not sure if it's a forum problem or if it's something about the terms I'm using to search for.

he was making them, when i sent him a PM a while back he refered me to the GM part number that is now avalible. The part is called a water deflector or rain deflector. im trying to get the part number now and will post it once found. its less then $5.00 and most dealers stock them

Perfect timing, Slow. I was on the phone with the dealer when you posted the number. Should have one here Thursday. Since the car is going in for the rolling fireball recall anyway, I may just have them install it.

The GM part is #15794785 for the updated part that I described in my permanent fix write-up on here. It is a much better fix than the flimsy piece of rubber. I believe the part number posted above is for the original rubber seal which you really won't need since you should already have that under the cowl, it just probably fell off as usual.
