I purchased an 01 ssei engine to go into my 97 gt and I found out the wiring harness are completely different (I should have known). How hard is it to convert the wiring so it will work and what is involved? Thanks

buy the pcm for that same engine and buy the harness for that make also.. and you should be good? i'd think.. we'll see what everyone else says here. i'm actually going to consider doing the same thing.

why do you need to switch the wiring harnesses if all youre using is the motor? just use the GT stuff and it will work fine unless youre looking for a plug and play solution, which would be to get the PCM from that motor too.

turns out the 97 is different for all the other years due to the 97 uses a vacuum trans. this day is full of good news

time for a new motor AND transmission since youll have problems with the vacuum operated tranny anyway.

The easiest solution would be tto send your pcm to ZZP and have them tune it for a top swapped setup .
    04 gto stock,97 GPGT l-36 block diamond pistons ,l-32 rods ,custom comp cam grind,HS 1-7 RR, p&p heads, SS IC,SS M-90 3.5" ,4t60eHD,from Gonzales TX.

FAIL. Don't send anything to ZZP for tuning. Have someone around our area that knows the 3800 platform tune your car.

Good luck with that tuning, several people have tried tuning 97GT 's with a GT trans and a L-67 and have failed miserably,at least with the ZZP tune it wil get him running and shifting then get a local to fine tune .Chico.

Well there are MANY capable people around the Kansas City area. I know, I live there. If he gets a NON-97 Motor and Trans then he will not have to worry about the vacuum powered '97 transmission...and then if he got the PCM from that motor/tranny setup it would be like tuning a '98-'02 GTP. Easy. Plus no one at ZZP has any credible tuning skills as of now and they having nothing but Cobalts to back it up now. Sure maybe a few years ago when they had their 8 second turbo car out the track all the time, but not anymore. But enough about ZZP.

selliott, go jump on a local club and get to know a few of us. Kansas City Pontiac Motorsports Club - Home Reptile and Abrasive on here have done MANY projects on the 3800 series engine and Reptile does great tuning, especially since he has a HP Tuners, but also knows the in's and out's of the DHP Powertuner (which has tuned mine many a times). Hope you get it figured out and if you do, shoot me a question if you'd like and I can be sure to try and help you out since your in the KC area
