2000 grand prix gtp ~125k miles
driving home one day on the highway heard a significant bang noise and then started a whomp whomp whomp sound that had a bang bang bang at a certain point, this noise is proportional to speed, at highway speeds it is louder and faster and at slower speeds it can be barely noticable, there is no pull no shake nor vibrations that i can feel in the wheels or steering, not affected with braking, however when you turn to one side it does get louder for a consistent speed, if you turn it to the other it is less for the same speed.
i took it to a dealer and they said it was the passendger side hub and wanted way to many hundreds to fix it. so i got a hub and put it on while i replaced the pasenger side ball joint and lower control arm bushings that needed to be replaced already. so i get the car back together and hope all is well but it is not the noise is still there just the same.
Brakes are good rotors are good, sway bar and other bushings are good, im wondering if it is a bad axle? the boots on teh cv joints are good no holes and no grease leaking out. Also the noise started when i had winter tires on the car and now i have my summer rims and tires on the car so the tires/wheels are not the cause either.
does anyone have any suggestions??
