Are you sure its the fuel pump? Will it start back up? A Crankshaft Position Sensor will sometimes cause the car to shut down as well. You said a loss of power and then it shut off. I dunno, Ive never known a fuel pump to just go bad like that.

It will not start back up it cranks and wants to turn over. It may just be some kind of sensor.
