7.4 qt for a pan drop/filter change, and yes, the filter is inside the pan.

The gasket is reusable, and much better than the crap that will usually come with the filter.

It's not hard to change, just try not to break the filter neck off (I've done it on Fords, but not on these, although I know someone that has), and don't mess with the seal unless you damage it.

The gaskets are reusable. If it looks nice and dry around the pan reuse it. Some times the rubber will start to crack especially close to the bolt holes, if that's the case, I'd recommend replacing it. The best one is the factory replacement from the dealer which should last as long as you have the car.

Shift kits aren't hard. Just get a quality kit (like the Intense kit) and not the crappy little spacers ZZP sells. Here's a thread from when I installed my Intense kit:

loosen bolts in proper order then take them off the rest of the way starting at one corner and working your way torwards the opposite corner. this way pan starts to tilt at an angle pouring the fluid into the pan and not all over you

I would not drop the pan. Have someone flush your tranny with a tranny flush machine. When you just drop the pan you still have a ton of old fluid in there to mix with your new fluid.

And if you don't drop the pan, you still have the crappy old filter. Take your pick.

Its better to replace your filter IMO. Its like changing your oil and not changing the filter.

Vise grips is what I use. If you use the bigger ones you can cam the insert out rather than try and do a straught pull.

I usually drop the pan and change the fluid I know this leaves old fluid in the tranny but I change it once a year which is roughly 20-25,000 miles

If you are fighting and harbor freight is nearby, get a blind pilot bearing tool. It works fantastic for this and coolant elbow remnants.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
