Since Illinois just passed the ban on suction cup mounts on windshield, this would be an easy way to have a radar detector. All w/o having to tear apart and extend the wires in an existing radar detector. Just thought I would share.

Me too. That's a pretty small price for a lot of stuff. Although, I've owned Bel, Escort, Cobra before Uniden bought them, and a Uniden. The Cobra that I bought new for $69 was the best. It would pick up radar more than a couiple of miles and rarely picked up on non radar signals.
Somebody broke in to my vehicle and stole several grand worth test equipment and my Cobra. The company replaced eveything except for the radar detector. Man was I PO'd when I could locate the same unit.

Whistler is supposed to be a decent brand, from the reviews I have read so far, it seems that its a lot like the passport escort series radar. So if that is true, it is pretty good.

I like the passport escort series radar. Have had 2. I wonder how this thing mounts. Id personally like to see it mounted before i purchase one.

Best buy sends out a email anytime a new law is passed that may affect sales. I recieved an email from corporate that stated after jan 1st of 2008, you cannot have anything mounted on your windshield other than rearview mirror in the state of Illinois I don't think they are enforcing it, kind of like that no driving in the left lane on the interstate other than for passing cars law.

I had a whistler remote mount in my truck, and it was ok, but the bel that is in my gp is by far a better unit and was about the same price. I have only run remote mounts for 10 years now

I dont know if this helps, but my radar detector is way up on the windshield next to the mirror, and because of the tint strip from the factory, it cannot be seem from outside, and if you get pulled over, the mirror stops view from outside the car, I know this, cause when my car was broken into they didn't see it going in through the drivers side window......

And I live in good ol' IL and i see s**t on windows all the time, it is probably gonna be one of those, they wanted to pull you over but couldn't come up with a good reason things

Yes this prolly is the case, actually the window strip is a decent idea, but cheaper tint actually has metal in it which blocks the radar. So on some window tints this wouldn't be a good idea

kinda kills the whole purpose of the detector (best location is towards the top of the windshield though for laser)

If you look at the back seats, only the top 7" - 10" of the windsheild will provide a clear "view" for the radar detector, that is one of the many reasons it went there

Another peice of stupid legislature. Like VA and passing a bill for the truck nutz to be illegal. If they want to make the roads safer just ban cell phone use while the vehicle is in motion. Levy heavy fines for those who disregard it.
