ok so i got my coated pacesetters from club gp used going to an exhaust shop tommorow to have the y pipe rear header and crossover expanded to fit perfectly and plan on using new band clamps and a shyt load of rtv...now for this 3 bolt flange...anybody ever had the bolts tightened and the edges welded shut? would that work or should i just get a good gasket..? also my car is in the shop having trans work done but when i do the install will i have trans dipstick clearance issues with these headers?

if you weld that shut you wont be able to get the exhaust on or off. welding the y pipe, which if you got the rear header in it and the cross over. then it will have all those parts welded. rear header and crossover. its gonna be a little difficult getting it in/on the car but it can be done. if you weld the downpipe to the y pipe connector then you wont be able to take it off and might not be able to get the headers off then. i wouldent suggest it. just use some gaskets.

no ive heard tilt the motor forward and go in from the top.

it all depends what excactly your getting welded together. the rear header and the crossover slide into the Y pipe. im guessing your putting those into the Y pipe then welding them shut??? if you weld the downpipe to the other end of the Y pipe, then thats alot of pipe to try and squese down there and get it into posistion. i would just bolt the downpipe on later, it seems to hard welded in place. its hard enough getting it into posistion. i wouldent really make it more complicated.

it will be alot easier for you. reptile got me some clamps and they worked wonders. rtv and tighen them up good and let them sit over night to let the rtv cure.
