i was looking at some 1.9 zzp rockers and they seemed like a good deal but they also said they cant be used with an aftermarket cam so i didnt like that too much. aslo how will rockers affect my car? will the exhaust sound anydifferent? i also read that it will increase mpg and that just sounded like a mistake to me. any help at all is welcome thanks

I'm assuming you're looking at the modified rockers ZZP sells. You can't use them with an aftermarket cam because a higher lift cam and high ratio rockers together will provide too much valve lift and cause binding.

Rockers will give you more power up top, but will leave idle and low RPM driving unchanged. The exhaust will not sound much different except maybe under full throttle.

As far as increasing MPG's: It's possible due to less restriction in airflow, but you'll also command more fuel during acceleration due to more air coming in.

exhaust note does not change. gives a little more top end. you dont need a cam to run 12s, so i opted to stick with a reliable, very streetable part.

i have seen the "pulley charts" on zzp i believe and they say in order to run this size pulley you need this. when it says you need a cam, will the rockers sub for it?

No, they're not. Rockers only increase the amount of lift, but keep the stock duration and valve timing. A cam changes valve lift, valve duration, and valve timing. The last two are most responsible for the exhaust sound of the three.

I'm with Bio. No need for a cam if you're not looking for really low times. Rockers with the right springs can provide the needed top end without the extra stress on the valve train a cam and tougher springs will put. Personally, while cam'd cars sound cool at the track, I don't want to drive around all day listening to that at every stop light.

The cam changes the sound of your exhaust because it changes when and for how long the valves open, as well as lifts them higher. The rockers just increase the valve lift.

As far as ZZP's charts go: They're just a guide and not a rule. 1.9 rockers will allow you to run about the same size pulley as a VS cam. So, the answer to that question is both yes and no. Yes, you can run a 3.3 non-intercooled with a set of rockers and other supporting mods (this would be like having a VS cam instead of the 1.9 rockers). No, you cannot run a 3.1 with rockers and no type of intercooler, like you could with an XP cam.

EDIT: Wow! It took me so long to write my response (got a bit side-tracked) that Sabre beat me to it...

I decided on rocker's because they're more sleeper and the reasons mentioned above. A cam kind of gives it self away .

E85 kinda counts as intercooling, too. But.... I still wanna see it happen.

with the e85 and meth i kinda want to be able to run the 3.0 i have. i will probably just run whatever pulley i can with around 20* of timing though. i have a feeling it will be my 3.2 or 3.1.

This is from when I was trying to diagnose a funny noise, but you can still hear the car for the most part.

I have a sound clip I can e-mail to you. It's a .amr file. You'll need something that can play that file type.
