Anyone know how to go about replacing the shifter cable? I got a good used one from Ed. And I have the console apart and the cable unhooked from the shifter. But I can't seem to get it pulled through the firewall. It is getting stuck and I don't want to get yank it out and then not be able to get it pushed back in.

Anyone have any experience replacing this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys...

On your cable from Ed, it there a molded gromet on it?

I have never replaced one on a GP, but I have on other pontiacs, and some have a rubber gromet thats molded onto the cable that goes thru the firewall. You may have to pop that out. I know its a real PITA to get out.

You may want to send a PM to trannyman95 as I am sure he has done a few.

    Thanks for replying.

But I managed to get it installed. The problem was not the rubber grommet. There was a grommet on the old cable, but not the new. So I used the old one. But the grommet came right out.

The problem was getting the shifter cable to go in between the floorboards and the plastic vent ducting. I was able to get it out by yanking the heck out of it. It eventually came. And I knew it was going to be hard to get back in so I tired a string to the end of it. When I tried pulling the new one back through, I broke the string. So I had to use screwdrivers, pry bar, and cut the hell out of my hands and arms to get it pushed under the ducting back to the shifter.

It was a pain in the ass job that I hope to never have to do again.
