So, my mother recently gave me her 2000 Grand Prix GT that she’s had since 03. It recently sat for about 7 years with the windows slightly down so things are a little rough inside. When she was trying to load it onto the trailer, she found that the ignition was stuck and the key would no longer turn it. Her friend decided that destroying the ignition cylinder to get it to turn was the best method to unlock the steering wheel. I’ve purchased a new ignition lock cylinder as the only way to start the car currently is with a screwdriver. However I am trying to get what remains of the old cylinder is still in there. I know that you need to push a pin on the top of the housing while the key is in run to remove the old cylinder but I can’t seem to get it out. Does anyone have any tips? I am not sure what’s going on with the anti theft system because the car starts with a screw driver and the security light flashing on the dash. The car did have a viper alarm at one point in the past so I think the factory security may have been bypassed. So no need to worry about relearning chipped keys. And yes this car is legally titled in my name. Thanks everyone.
