it snowed this past weekend and i turned on the wipers to clear a light accumulation off the windshield, maybe half an inch or less. The passenger side wiper when right along but the driver side didnt move.
After clearing the windshield the driver side moved, but stopped when it encountered any resistance, and started getting caught in the path of the passenger side.
The Wiper motor seems to be fine.

Any suggestions? My thoughts are to see if the spline is stripped, and if its not, i figure the wiper transmission failed.

theres a cap at th ebase of the wiper arm, remove it and tighten the nut you see there under the cap. do this wiper in off position and push the wiper down, then make it tight

What Scotty said. The wiper linkage connects the two arms, so if one isn't working, the problem has to be in the spline's.

Here is a pic of the drivers side nut, cuz I'm a picture nut. LOL

Similar issue, on daughters car, is the arm splined to the spindle, or does the pressure from the nut pushing against the arm keep the shaft from spinning on the shaft? I removed the nut and the arm would not come off, didn't try that hard and ddon't have a puller for it. I positioned the arm in the parked position and then tightened the nut. Checked torque at 20 ft-lbs and it was at least that tight. Tried wipers and they now appear to work fine.

Is that all there is to it, or do I need to replace the arm if splines are sheared off.

    Thanks,
    John

Nope, if it works now then it's tight enough. My drivers side used to come loose so often that I carry around a wrench just for that use. Original arms on 00 GP and still have not stripped it out. Yes there are small splines on it but when it loosens up the arm walks up the mount and then just flops around if it gets a bite.
