I have to replace my steering wheel. Looked at my AllData and seems straight forward. Never worked with air bags before, so I'm a little nervous. I don't want to disconnect the battery (if possible) as you need to turn the wheel to remove the airbag.

Here is what my AllData says for the air bag:

    1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
    2. Turn OFF the ignition.
    3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
    4. Remove the IP fuse block cover.
IMPORTANT: With the SIR Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicatean SIR system malfunction.
    5. Remove the SIR Fuse.
    6. Remove the LH insulator panel.
    7. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of thesteering column.
    8. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector
    9. Remove the CPA from the inflatable restraint IP module connector located to the right of the steering column.
    10. Disconnect the IP module connector.

Anything else they might not talk about? I've also heard people say to let the airbag sit for 30 minutes after disconnecting, as it may hold a charge. Agree? Disagree? Comments?

Planning to do this when the rain stops, which may not be for a few months. LOL

ive actually took the bag off and unplugged it, battery fuse, everything on, key off tho. this way you can fire it up and turn the wheel so the holes are at the top to work the spring lock free.

Follow the instructions you will be fine. Just don't put your head in front of the steering wheel in case it goes off. Seriously though I took my entire dash out one time following instructions and had no problem. Now on the other hand I had a friend buy a toyota tacoma at an auction and 1 of many times he reached in standing on the ground to start the truck and had the airbag go off and club him in the face. Also had somebody at work try to jump start a truck with a gas powered welder generator and it set the air bag off hitting another person leaning into the truck to start it. Not to be discouraging but it can happen but follow the instructions and you should be fine.
