Ok. So I know I'm going to get a lot of opinions on this one, so I would like to limit this to those who have actually bought or used one of these or at least directly know first hand about these.

I'm thinking about buying something like this: http://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/te...h-tis2000.html which is a cheap chinese knock off of the $3000+ tech 2 scan tools.

I know that you need access to gm's online database to actually flash anything, and that the software will most likely be out of date, but I'm mainly wanting it for diagnostics and flashing various modules.

Basically seeing if anyone has any experience with these and whether they would recommend buying one or not and why. Any relevant information is helpful!

Sorry for being a noob here, but I'm unfamiliar with that term. Do you mind indulging me?

haha thanks! Hopefully someone has an answer. Someone asked something similar on the camaro forum and got mixed replies, but mainly good. I've seen a few reviews saying they are the same build quality, but the software is old.

I've heard that you have to pay for the software upgrade, and I just found out you can buy access to GM's database for just a few days at a time. It's still pricey, but not as much as going to the dealer....

Basically, if I had one that worked, I wouldn't have to worry about ever going to a mechanic again.

I haven't bought or used one, but there was a large discussion on this on the Corvette Forum you might be interested in. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...y-pleased.html

Used mine this morning to test it out. I tried it out on my GXP and my 94 Olds Cutlass. Seems to work like a normal Tech2. I was able to program a new fob for the GXP.

My dad bought one off of Aliexpress since there are several GM vehicles between us and at various times we have needed to do the "dealer exclusive" things that only a Tech II can do. Rather than pay $100 a trip to the dealership to have some idiot who doesn't know how to use the Tech II fumble through it for over an hour, the price of the chinese clone makes it a very worthwhile purchase.

We found a seller that had a good sales record and ratings and pulled the trigger. The shipping was super fast, it must have only been 3-4 days after placing the order that we received it. When we first got it, I powered it up and did all the recommended self tests, everything passes fine. All the promised parts and accessories were present in the box. So far I have used it to do a CASE learn on a 2000 Buick and it worked great for that.

They seem to have these clones figured out really well. Just buy from a seller that has a strong sales record and good feedback.

Exactly, I needed to have some things done, program a new fob, etc and this was only going to cost slightly more than paying a dealership to do anything. It was a no brainer.

Does anyone want to take the time and tell me some of the coolest features you can do with these tech 2s. I know I could research but I'm fealing lazy. I currently already have multiple scan tools and a dhp that can do the case learn and live data and stuff. So basically why would I want to spend money on this? Please enlighten me masters! Thanks! ☺

pretty sure it can change a vin # along with a host of programming stuff, like re homing the abs on a 98 regal, or changing the magna steer settings, there soft, med and firm settings for that. pretty sure they can scan abs codes as well.

key fobs for newer cars, and its not just a w body tool, it covers just about all makes models.
