    Hey all,

I have a strange noise coming from my 02 GTP. It comes on at operating temp and after shutoff it fades away after a couple of seconds. I assumed it was a pulley issue but the sound stays on for a couple seconds after shutoff, so I thought maybe it was the power steering pump. I'm at a loss right now, more details in the video attached. Let me know what you guys think.

take both belts off and start it, if the sound is gone its something the belt turns, alt, p/s w/p a/c. hand spin em all till you find one that dont spin as free. or has a wobble. idlers and tensioners too.

if you take the oil cap off and it stops the pcv is blocked. heard them make sound slike that before.

you got a intercooler under the blower?

my bet is the pcv also.. the pullies stop and sound continues like air.. If your air filter is a KN gona have to oil it. it looks like a unoiled filter.. the Bay is nice and tidy tho. Sweet car

Blocked fresh air passage. Either at the tb gasket or sc gasket....fairly common if excessive rtv is used

Scotty, no I don't, but I'll check the pcv with the oil cap, thanks! Turbocharged400sbc, I had the sc off last weekend and the sound is away from the TB, but that was checked. It does have two spacers between the LIM and SC though, is that normal or could that cause an issue? Still not 100% familiar with these cars. Wowitsfast, thanks man, the previous owner definitely was meticulous and I plan on carrying it on, thanks for the input.

if that sound goes away oil cap off, the p/o either got to much rtv on there and blocked the pcv holes up, or the spacer is blocking the pcv holes, or one of them.

once the cap is off if you put your hand over the vc hole you'll feel it sucking air in. another member had this issue and it blew the front main seal off on him.

this thread covers how to deal with this issue if your spacers cover the pcv holes. lots of pics. always good.

Sorry for the late reply guys, I was away at school. So I removed the oil cap, sound disappeared. I got a replacement PCV valve and put it in, car sounded and ran fine until operating temp, then the original sound came back along with a terrible squeak. I'm assuming I either put the PCV in incorrectly, or I got the wrong pcv valve.

I realized after testing it, but I have a Gen V SC. Does it use a different pcv than a stock 02 GTP? I just picked one out based on my year and model.

Was the o-ring in place on the pcv valve?

you need to take the sc off and make sure its pcv holes are clear of rtv or anything else.

I had it off a couple of weeks ago for the LIM gasket, it was clear. I put the old pcv valve back in for kicks and giggles and the squealing sound stopped, with the original sound still there. The pcv valves were noticeably different where the spring rests on the valve itself, and it did not stick on the new one as well. Is that an issue?

id still take it off and re check the pcv and the two small holes in the blower. only time we hear that sound is a blocked off pcv passage, it can be just one of the two also.

we hear this when a zzp ic is installed. for what ever reason their core blocks off the rad side port.

Did you use a gasket on the pcv cover?

Maybe you got a bad valve, get another one at the store and try it out.

I just double checked not too long ago and felt like an idiot. The p/o didn't have a gasket for it, could that be the only thing?

Again, I have a gen v sc, and I've seen a lot of write ups about a custom pcv system with them. Is that feasible?

I'm also seeing that IC cars can get away with a breather on the valve cover?

Thanks for helping me out guys, I'm definitely in uncharted **** for me lol

Interesting fix. I saw this picture sseilmnop posted before seeing your link: http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...tion-about-pcv

I think that picture might be the one missing in the link you sent me. Vac line from Oil neck to Drilled out TB nipple? And can it be done any way without drilling, as long as it's between butterfly and sensor?

you got a gen 5 dont ya? your pcv line look like this? hose blower to tb. pretty sure thats a N* tb that has that nipple on it already that the hose is on.

normally that hose goes pre tb in the air intake tube.

Just checked it and wasn't visible at first since it's under some lines, but I have the setup you posted.
